Fished from 2pm till 7pm due to getting stuck on the M25. Rained constantly and may have stayed a little longer but was drenched! Fished the upper section and settled into the least slippery and dangerous swim. Had one bite resulting in a cracking barbel of just over 9lb.

Advisable to have a dog spike and rope when it's wet on this beat, it saved me a fall into the river!

River not fishable again, spoke with Mick the Ghillie who told me not to drive the 400 mile round trip as it was a waste of time and money, river temperature 71f and coloured, so took Micks advice and stayed at home, cancelled hotel, this is my fourth trip at Goodrich this year and have not had one day with conditions being any good, £400 down the drain. Unfortunately no wash offs for coloured/algae warm river. will keep trying hope to get one or two good days before the season close.

WUF Note: we always recommend checking conditions before setting off especially as they can change so suddenly

Poured with rain all day, making the banks hard to manage. Glad we brought rope and a dog spike. Fishing slow, but enjoyable.

River very low and clear. Spent the first hour baiting and sighting fish. Only saw one Barbel during all this time from the bridge. Chub were plentiful. Started fishing near side left of the bridge and roved throughout a very wet day. Was hoping levels and colour would change but despite trying many tactics (leger, feeder, float, freelining) and a whole range of baits could only manage Chub. Was a tough day but no doubt the rain may improve things. All chub were between 2.5-3.5lb. Access to the water is great and its very picturesque. Thx USK.

No sign of the Barbel today. Caught the five Chub to 3lbs by midday, but then went home due to very very heavy rain, which made the very steep banks absolutely treacherous.
