Water level slightly high but clear.Reasonable numbers of flies hatching with lots of hatching duns on the water. But I didn't
see a single fish rise and nothing came to my dry. Tried a nymph but no takes either.

I knew the levels may be a problem, the hut was too quick, 2 casts with 120gr feeder and is was straight round to the bank, went to the the woods, tried 2 swims for an hour + each, moved to a 3rd and had a chub, could have sat it out but the swim wasnt that safe so called it a day about 1.00pm.

Fishing:Salmon

First visit, and although no Salmon caught or seen there was no disappointment. A really picturesque stretch of water with lots of variety, particularly for the trout fisher. I was focused purely on Salmon today, but based on the fine condition of the trout that kept taking my Ally's, I think next time I should bring two rods! The bottom section of the beat really took me by surprise with its breadth - what with the sloping pebble shores and flat land in surround it somehow reminded of parts of the Tay. Some of the nicest fly water I've fished on the Usk, but I would suspect the best chance of a Salmon here is in pretty high water. A great consideration when other Usk beats are too high to fish. I lost my sunglasses wading down in the morning, and miraculously found them on the river bed in the afternoon! Every cloud and all that.

The river was still in flood and bank access was difficult. What pegs we could find were extremely slippery and muddy. Fishing the inside slacks produced some barbel and chub to float tactics either to maggot or meat. The farm track access was good to the indicated farthest point.

2 brown trout caught and returned, 1 rainbow caught and kept (spinners)
Hoped for a few perch or a pike but no luck. Are there any in this lake? Had better luck in pontsticill but still a successful afternoon.
