My father caught one nice trout from a fast riffle, but i was struggling to connect. I believe the majority of this fish were in the top pool of this beat. The pool's wooded sides make casting difficult if not impossible. I needed a hand out of the mud right at the top. It sucked the sole right off my wading boot.

Maybe I should have spent more time fishing where the fish were, rather than where I wanted them to be. Sitting motionless and waiting for a fish to come in range and somehow dangle a fly in front of it would possibly be a winning technique, but is far from what I’d consider fly fishing.

My GRHE nymph wasn’t interesting any trout today, but the shoals of minnows swarmed around it like piranhas, gamely attacking a prey huge relative to their body size.

Maybe there is a way to avoid them blank? Yes, I’m going there. I tied on my smallest, barbless hare’s ear, and dangled it at my feet. The tiny fish swarmed around it until one appeared which was big enough to take the fly in its mouth. I’d intentionally targeted a fish whose name is a synonym for small in the English language. Still, blank avoided and a new species for me. And I’m not even sorry.

Such a lovely stretch. Not the best conditions - sunny and so many canoeists - but nice to see water back in the river.
Bit of a social session so only fished the driveable section opposite the national trust property and arrived lunchtime-ish
Had one pb chub as it sytarted to get dark so very happy. Didn't see any sign of barbel
will be back

No fish caught. Only saw one fish during the 5 or 6 hours of fishing. Looked promising but water very clear and still low.

My first time on the River Wye; a lovely stretch of river. Nothing rising but managed a few lovely trout on a tungsten nymph.

River low - opposite bank busy through the day! Feeder fished pellet and hemp. Caught through the day and I was thoroughly thrashed by my daughter 9 barbel to my 2. Combined with the previous days fishing we had a red letter couple of days with a first Wye Double for Kelly at 10:4. Another trip is already being planned.
Be prepared to walk though as its quite a trek with all the gear!

Went for a hares ear and czech nymph combo at start of the day and caught most of the fish on the HE. Second best of the day was the first brownie, weighed in at around 1.3lb. Had my first ever double hook up on the boards down past Heirag with two 12 oz browns. Best fish of the day came at last light on a klinkhammer, really good grayling, 1.5 lb. All fish returned. Great beat, very long so hard to fish the whole lot in a day. River running a bit higher than summers drought, but could still do with a bit more water. I'll return in Autumn.

River slow shallow and very weedy, rather a lot of noisey reckless canoes again!
