Another hard day on the Wye before heading home. Managed 2 barbel and although conditions seemed ok the fishing this weekend has not been as good as normal. Got home to find that we had left a net at middle hill court. I'm assuming that it will be long gone but if anyone fishes there and finds a net I would really appreciate it if they would let the Wye and Usk know so they can contact me. Back again in a few weeks and hopefully the river will be back on form.

This was always going to be a recce than a serious fishing opportunity. River very low. Number of trees down. Un-fishable in places due to trees. Access to the river very poor along the whole stretch. Balsam everywhere. But worst of all is that barbed wire is everywhere.
A nice beat badly let down by non-existence maintenance.
There's no doubt that there are lots of fish there - and lots have been caught recently, but I won't return there.

Another great day on the Wye. Our first visit to this beat but will not be the last. Eight fish came to hand within the first hour, all being caught along the Lady Alexanders Catch and all were caught on spiders in the surface film. The remaining fish were caught (on nymphs) throughout the day, mainly from around the riffle below Abernant Stream. Apart from the trout and grayling we took five salmon parr. If we had connected with all the touches and knocks we could easily have recorded in excess of twenty fish.

2 rods blanked and the other were still catching when we left, 1 rod caught all day spread out and the other caught from 7 onwards. The lowest I have seen this stretch and I have been fishing the great wye for a while.

I arrived at Courtfield at approximately 6.ooam after a short 35 minute drive, the parking areas were easy to find after a bit of research on google maps the previous night.
After walking the length of the fishery checking out all the swims i decided to drop in on Legg meadow crib from here i took three barbel up to 6.8lb from a spot towards the far bank , three casts and three fish, at around 9.30 the first of the dreaded canoes started floating by which killed the action, so with this i decided to take a good look around, after a visit to the pub for lunch and a further walk round in which i decided to drop in to wood crib,at around 4.30 the canoes had now dispersed.
At first i fished half way out to where i was receiving indications of fish being present but found that the area was immensely snaggy and proceeded to lose a few feeders, i decided to fish another mark on the far bank under some overhanging tree in about three feet of water within two minutes of the feeder hitting the water i received a snatchy bite which produced a chubb of around 5lb, two furthers casts to same area then produced a 6.9lb and an 9.4lb barbel.
Stunning stretch to get you really thinking Drove home with a massive smile on my face.

Regards
Jonathan Dunn
