River looked perfect with extra water and colour a barbel anglers dream, though it was very cold water which made the fish reluctant to feed, we did mange to catch a few barbel .

Fished from 8am till 5pm and not a bite all day, been over there most weekends from June and every time it's been shocking. Everyone I've spoken to over there also complains about the lake not being stocked enough, think it's time to look for a new place to fish.

Great to be back in an area I know well from my younger days when I was a mountain bike guide in the hills and a competitor in the Man V Horse race. First time on this beat which was carrying a lot of water after heavy rain but most of the middle section was fishable with both nymphs and dries taking fish. Nothing big , up to 13", but all in good condition. When returning to the tail of a pool where I spotted a good sized Trout earlier I came across a young farmer lad and his girlfriend worming ( fishing that is ) the dilemma was do I ask them to leave, or knowing there is not much to do for youngsters in this area ignore it and and move on. This time I did the latter but the Colonel should be informed, We all had to start our fishing career somewhere.

Saved the drive from Bristol, as I thought the river may still be too high / brown to get the best out of the beat, so did not fish. However seeing the reports, 2 fish came out of the Lower Llanstephan section on that day! Always learning - always wishing I HAD gone in the end! I do sometimes wonder if my life would be less restless without Salmon fishing in it... but then I reply: Where's the fun in that?

Beat:Taff Fechan

Fishing:Trout (River)

Beautiful small trout river that is clearly well looked after by the local angling association. There was a pretty good flow of water in the river without being overly turbid. Fished using a duo arrangement (nymph beneath a dry fly). In the morning caught on the nymph (PTN and later replaced with a red tag nymph), then caught trout on the dry fly (elk hair caddis) in the afternoon. Most trout caught between 7 1/2 inch and 10 inch. Fished upstream from Clun Bridge. 1 fish taken; the rest returned.

7 Trout
