Left home at 07:30 with the temperature gauge showing 11C. River at a good level and running clear, ideal for trotting the deeper pools. Four good grayling and 1 out of season trout caught, and plenty of small grayling. Beautiful sunny afternoon made wearing neoprene waders a little warm.

First time to the Arrow. Lovely river to fish, plenty of shallow runs into deeper pools. Fished nymphs and bugs but could not locate any grayling today. Water running pretty clear so fish likely to have been easily spooked.
I’ll certainly be back in the spring.

Tough day.
Temperature rise and in some places over a metre up in depth maybe more compared to last week, one fish caught. Euro nymped for the majority of the day, on reflection should have dry flied with a nymph more as well as indicator fishing which I did catch on. Not the best of times.

1 tiny trout caught and 1 decent grayling (slightly under 1lb) caught, both returned. Trout caught on a three fly euro nymphing rig whilst high sticking, grayling caught on an indicator two fly set up, again high sticking, both came to the same 3mm duracell cdc fly. River slightly up with some good deep riffles that looked ideal for grayling, should have done better. Fished the entire length of beat.

18 x grayling 6 - 19 inches, trotting. Mostly shotts up to about 11-12 inches, but two lovely cock grayling at 18 and 19 inches. An unusually warm day with some dark olives hatching, sadly not to last.
