River low even after the day or so of rain previously. Also quite sunny, so the trout saw me well in advance of me casting a fly. However, two small trout approx. 6 inches to dry elk hair and one to goldhead ptn below. The odd fish rising in difficult to access places. Good fun testing my casting skills though! However, negotiating the numerous barriers across the river (fallen trees and cattle fences) beat me in the end and I left for home before getting to the end of the beat. Lovely place to spend a few hours though and on a day with a bit more water / less bright it would be worth a return visit!

A lovely location and seems very under fished. Tricky wading in places on the bedrock which is very slippery.
Plenty of fish in all the usual runs and riffles including a few surprises like a beautiful 12 inch fish from the tiniest pocket gave a great scrap on my 9ft 3 weight!
Fished French leader with 2 weighted nymphs most of the afternoon apart from 1 pool towards the top where a few fish were rising I tried a dry to no avail.

The final day of a four day trip and fishing a familiar beat I very much enjoy. Again the fishing started slow and only picked up as the day warmed. Rain in hills had slightly coloured the water and there was a good flow and a steady hatch including sporadic May. When the sun showed itself it was very warm and the fish really started to move. A great end to a fantastic trip. Thank you WUF.

River was slightly cloudy, but at a good height. The weather was cool with clouds and sunny intervals. The fish were rising, and occasionally hooked and rarer still landed. Dry flies were the order of the day and there was healthy insect life. Lovely day's fishing.
2 observations
The whole herd of cattle charged down the hillside into the river at the now-defunct watergate. The water was cloudy and the river seems more silty than in previous years. Could the 2 be connected?
The farmer asked not to use the car park area over the bridge as he can't swing his tractor and long trailer into the field. Perhaps the large carpark on the 'main road' should be the only one recommended. Hope the comments are helpful.

Beat:Clettwr

Fishing:Trout (River)

The Clettwr was in fine fettle, clear and at a good height. The fish were keen and 6 came to hand with others 'released at distance'! This small stream is a very special experience. The trout are small but very beautiful with bright red spots, red margined adipose and white edged fins. A delight for those keen on 'commando-style' fishing.

Weather overcast, river low and gin clear. A trickle of mixed flies including a few Mays. I have really mixed feelings about this beat. The landscape is beautiful and truly remote. It has a decent head of wbt and a nice variety of riffles, glides and meanders.
However, there seems to be a tree or obstruction at every turn making castable fishing quite limited. Also many of the fishy looking heads and tails of pools were off limits due to debris. Maybe I am being picky due to the high quality fishing offered by the Passport, but not for me this one. Oh, and did manage 3 wbt to a size 16 Adams.

First time fishing this beat, dry with sunny periods. First half has quite a few nice pools where fish were visibly rising but not taking, eventually caught 3 small wbt in 2 minutes changing to a griffiths gnat which they hit like a train. The latter half has a very long section of fast riffle with little variety, I should have changed to nymphing but thought there would be another pool of rising fish just around the next corner - but no.
Saw a mink on the right (south) bank early on, got a shock towards the end in a deeper riffle when what looked like an octopus broke surface & rolled past me in the fast water turning over end on end - realised after it seemed to be a 2-3lb fish wrestling with a large lamprey - went past in a flash.
