A very hard day on the creel today. Started in a known spot that my friend had some brilliant catches from a few weeks ago and couldn't get a bite. Ended up fishing further upstream and finally found the fish about 8pm. Had a steady hour between us towards the end of the session and we were pleased to end the evening with a few fish.

Started fishing about 4pm. Fished until dark in the woods stretch in the fastest water I could find. Had first barbel about 5pm, 6lb 12oz added a second smaller one at dusk (about 4lb). Hard going which I expected in the sunshine, however, I thought I'd get more action at dusk. Lovely evenings fishing anyway. Both fish caught on pellet with PVA bags. Both fish fighting fit and in lovely condition.

Last day of our trip. We'd fished this stretch before with some success so hoped this would be the golden day that would make up for our low catches on our previous sessions. Not to be. No fish caught and with the river lower than on previous occasions with poor flow we didn't manage a bite between us. We'll be back again though to fish this stunning river with its rich wildlife and beautiful scenery. Thanks to Wye and Usk Foundation.

This was my second visit to this beat , I was really positive about fishing here having researched it a bit more , the river was still very low and clear , this whole beat is laced with streamer weed , making it hard to find clear spots to cast to, I had a barbel first cast which can be a bad omen to some anglers . This proved true today , I had nothing for the rest of the day .
I appreciate the river is not fishing well due to these hard conditions over the last 3 weeks , I know it'll improve , patience is needed, there are some beats that are producing good bags it's just hard to get a booking on them ,
Not a blank , so not all bad , I'm sure this place fishes well with the perfect conditions , I'll be back again

River was low but managed to find the fish although it did involve plenty of searching. NZ style seemed to be the method of the day. DB had an excellent day and great to get DC into his first Upper Wye Grayling. As usual fish were in superb condition with the best Grayling pushing 2.5lbs.

A half day session to discover more of the middle section here from the big deep corner pool about half way up the beat itself (short section of some wooden fencing here on the right bank , follow this up the hill a little way and then back down to the wire fence and you can then get over this here ok to the river) up to where the brook comes in by the footbridge and a lovely well shaded section with a good series of riffle / pools here and some very good looking and good length pools too . One of those sections where once your in the water you cant get out easily (or at all ! ) until you get to the brook by the foot bridge but wadeable along edges of pools all the way up to here and you can then get out of the river ok here and walk back down the fence line back to the big corner pool.
A good number of fish where spooked in the tails of the pools.
The water above the footbridge looked very skinny and slow at the moment . The fish to hand went up to about 10inch and all on a 16 black klink'
Lovely !
4 Trout
