Arrived to find the river carrying some much needed extra water, though it did mean that I couldn't fish swims I had fished on previous visits. Had my first barbel after 30 minutes and then nothing for the next four hours, when I had an eel. Then had three barbel in quick succession, biggest approx seven pounds. Finished off with a chub and packed up about six thirty. All fish taken on halibut pellet hook baits and feeder combination.
The gods must have been smiling upon me when I booked White House, as the day before my visit I attempted to play badminton for the first time in many years and sustained an injury to my Achilles. I was able to park close to my chosen swim and very slowly get my gear down to the river's edge bit by bit. I'm sure this would not have been possible on a number of other venues! A hospital visit today (27/08)has established that I have possibly ruptured my Achilles and am now sitting typing this with a cast on my left leg.
(WUF: Wishing you a speedy recovery)

River slightly coloured, and had clearly fined down after something of a rise. Certainly freshened the trout up! After a slowish start trying various dries I found trout in virtually every run and glide willing to come up to a small sparse iron blue para., although I think anything light grey would have worked. Eventually landed 20 at 6" to 12", and missed many more - in the sun my tippet was sometimes very obvious. Had to leave at 5.30 having only fished about two thirds of the beat, so could have caught many more. Fantastic day!

I only fished for a couple of hours. The river was red with canoes and the only fish I caught was an eel! About 1 pound!

The river had risen significantly after recent rain and was carrying a lot of troublesome debris, including large branches and occasionally whole trees! It is evidence of how prolific the stretch is that, despite this and my bro being a relative river novice, we still caught a few barbel up to just under 7lb, although mainly considerably smaller.
Lovely river, but this is a tricky stretch to fish in high water.
