I’d booked this section as a change from the Wye and to explore smaller river habitat. The river was still running full and coloured after heavy rain so couldn’t judge depth or features. I walked the full length through nice managed woodland and meadow. River bank vegetation was high but the metal landing net handle came in handy! I had one chub just over 4lb. Would like to return when levels have dropped and be able to stalk fish. Youngsters were using the opposite bank a lot mid-section and others had dogs. This is the nature reserve side accessible by footpaths.

Had a couple of takes on a sherry spinner pattern in the broken water a couple of hundred metres below the bridge at the upper beat limit. No fish brought to the net.
Nothing by way of an evening rise with only the odd fish moving.
The easiest access to the water on this beat is right at the upper limit. My wading staff was used mostly to get up and down the steep banks.

Dead baits + lures. First time fishing the river but appeared too fast for some of the methods that produce on other slower rivers. Saw 3 large 70cm + salmon jump while fishing.

Just fished for a couple of hours late evening. Fish started rising at about 10pm but they seemed to be mainly wee ones. Lovely to be out on a warm summer evening though!

River was still fairly high but the colour was good. Fished at the metal steps at the lower end of the section. Fished pellet in a large open end feeder answer 12 mm halibut pellet on hook. After couple of hours had a few good bites but sure they were chub, did not connect with anything. Then a classic tap and rod bent round and soon a barbel of around 8 lbs was in the net. Fished on but strangely no further bites so moved up into the meadow just above the middle parking spot. Thanks to the appearance of very hot sun had no further bites so packed up an hour later. Th roughly enjoyed the day and will certainly be back.

When we booked this length back in January I was planning to do some trotting on this short and shallow stretch however the river was still a couple of feet up and there was no chance of this. We did find some fish on the right hand bank where the flow was a little steadier. We had 9 barbel to 8lb 1 oz and 4 chub to 4lb 6oz on feeder and pellet tactics.

9 Barbel, 4 Chub
