I roved the whole stretch after baiting a few swims with cheesepaste, while my mate fished groundbait and pellets in a couple of swims, hoping for barbel.
There was very heavy rain as we arrived mid-morning, and this was enough to make the river rise a couple of inches during the afternoon. The river did fine down again later, but another downpour halted our day at 5.45.
I managed to sneak out a nice chub of 4lb+ on my first cast in the first swim I returned to after baiting-up. After each fish, I moved immediately, and also had a 2lber in the third swim. My tactic was freelining cheesepaste under nearside bushes. Later on, I had 3 more chub, 1 of 12 oz and the other 2 around 4 oz.
My mate only managed 2 small chub, both less than 1lb, and no sightings or bites from barbel.
Interestingly, despite lots of stories about chub taking floating crust, I have never experienced this before, but on Sunday there were fish all along slurping it down. Sadly, they were all deep in snaggy swims. next time I would have to go with chest waders to fish from the river rather than just bank fishing. I think some fantastic chub sport could be on the cards to this approach in the next couple of weeks.

No fish caught, I counted about 22 people fishing and no one as I watched all day caught any fish. The roads are full of pot holes round the reservoir making it harder to drive. Been going here for over 30 years, but not any more.

A very enjoyable 2 days on the river Wye on a very nice beat that is well looked after by Colin who came down to see us a very nice and helpful guy. We did well to catch 44 fish over 2 days considering it was pouring heavy rain most of the day on the Sunday and blue sky brilliant sunshine and very hot on the Monday, can't wait for our next visit.

Plenty of fish seen but nothing caught. Heavy canoe traffic after 10.30 until 4.00 only to be expected at this time of year. We'll try again sometime soon.

I arrived at around 11AM and by chance met Sean in the car park. He told me he owns this beat and offered to show me around. What followed was that he essentially became my professional guide for the day and apart from his insight and knowledge even gave me some coaching. Lots of grayling were caught, mainly to him, but I had a few and missed even more all to dries. They were taking small elk hair yellow and olive patterns. A fantastic day on this beautiful beat with great company. I learnt a huge amount, not only about the river but technique. Many thanks Sean.

Really enjoyed fishing here. Struggled to find the fish at first, I was casting in the much faster flowing areas. Usually on the Wye these are the holding spots but not the case here. Luckily there was another angler a few swims down who fishes it regularly, he told me where the good spots were and within minutes the fish started coming, thanks again Colin! All the barbel I caught where of a good size, smallest at 7lb biggest was 9lb. Good access and parking and plenty of room once your on the bank. I will be back again for sure - great fishing!

Fishing a bit tougher than usual, one decent barbel around 9lbs. Always good to be out fishing though though.
