Very enjoyable evening on the Chainbridge beat, two small wild browns to the dry for my efforts to a pattern I tied to use on the Taff and its tributaries not too dissimilar to an Adams. Both safely released.
A first outing for me on the Usk... I spent a lot of time during my session observing the fish as I do at any venue and noticed that there were a lot of juvenile chub present. I initially thought they were dace but managed to get a closer look after hooking a few of them on the dry. There seemed to be plenty of grilse throwing themselves around and very surprisingly a shoal of mullet working their way along the margins of the pool at the top of the boundary. I didn't see any sizable browns upstream of the bridge however I did see a few in the two lower pools but they were too difficult to cover as I couldn't wade there due to the deep water.
A LOVELY VENUE FOR THOSE PREPARED TO PUT IN A LITTLE EFFORT. WILL RETURN SOON!

Beat:Towy near Llandeilo
Fishing:Sea Trout

2 x sewin, 2.5 and 3 pounds, Secret Weapon and Surface Lure. Started just after 10. Almost no fish showing, although it seemed very nearly a perfect night, warm, windless and quite dark, with a gibbous moon occasionally occasionally peeping through stacks of cloud. Very beautiful in fact. Finished just after 1 o'clock with hot coffee at the car before driving home. Our friend Miles, bless him, motor-cycled down from Bristol for just three hours fishing the Towy. If you see a BMW twin streaking along the M4 with rods and a Gye net strapped on the pillion, that will be Miles.

Arrived around 5:30am to a beautiful Wye misty morning. Had decided to fish the croy at the far end of the beat first then work my way back during the day. Walked down the "mountain" to the River and all the way to the croy swim then discovered I'd left my bait in the car so had the pleasure of doing it all again! 3 chub in the morning before 10:00am. Two on the stick and pin and one on feeder/pellet. Nothing from the next two swims and I was back in the first field by 3pm. Afternoon was incredibly hot and not surprisingly uneventful. Fish started feeding around 7pm and a further 8 chub (and a very greedy Gudgeon!!!) followed to straight lead and loose fed pellet at about half way across. Another great day on the river although the lack of Barbel was a disappointment.
Canoe traffic was reasonably bearable but three Canoes strapped together with an outboard motor on the back was taking the "proverbial" and tested my patience to the extreme!!!

D Fs first ever fishing trip started slow with the fish not showing any interest in any of the normal swims. I started to fear that D F s first ever trip was going to end with a blank, however around four, the fish turned on for a brief feed and D managed to catch his first ever barbel and chub. The best barbel was around 8 lb so a good fish for first outing. Wild life was great and the day very enjoyable, regardless of the less than perfect fishing conditions. I'm back next week to have a go myself rather than play gillie for the day. Crossed fingers.
