Hot bright sunny day with water very low so went with hope more than expectations, and this was well founded as we only managed one chub.

Great day on a beautiful beat. Sunny autumnal day, lots of fly life, very occasional fish rising. Patience, cunning and nymphs need to tempt the trout - PTN and Copper John caught the two trout on the first part of the beat above the bridge one was a nice, fat 1lb fish. For the rest, they were fun but small - mostly around 4 in Grayling - all caught on dries - small blue wing parachute and black klinks. Looking forward to returning asap.

River in good condition, if a little low as is normal at this time of year. Lovely day, although later on that caused my shadow to lengthen across the water. That alone though can't account for my low tally of 2 fish - one of 6, one of 8 inches. A bigger one (of course) got away. I was fishing spiders, but I'm afraid I can't remember their names. I must start labeling them in my fly box.

Arrived at 1pm again for an afternoon/evening session. Met Colin at the salmon Hut and had a chat before walking down to our swim. Lots of salmon about on this beat and we even managed to spot one in the margins which was quite large!!
We began on pellet and bomb again and had a barbel within 30 secs of casting out. The swim then went quiet apart from the odd chub. The fish were still there but were wary in the afternoon sun.
We then rolled meat for a few hours and managed a good few chub (4lb plus) on this method.
We then went back to the pellet and bomb and caught barbel steadily all evening.
A lovely well kept beat, lots of wildlife including 2 otters as we walked back to the car.

A fabulous water and a great result for all four anglers on this trip. There is a lot of ground to cover, and there are large areas where getting to the river is impossible, but that still leaves plenty of scope for angling in a variety of conditions. Fish were caught throughout the day, but there was a final flourish immediately before sunset. all caught on ledgered or drifted pellet, with an emphasis on keeping mobile. Beat 2 and 3 were particularly productive.
Although we were coarse fishing, there were many sightings of salmon and trout throughout the day.

We started fishing at around 11am after walking the beat and selecting swims. We decided to start in the Legg Meadow pool but struggled. We tried further downstream from the cribs with the same result. At about 6pm we moved back to the Legg Meadow pool and started to catch immediately. I think it was due to the strong sun going down, and a reduction in canoe traffic. All fish were caught on standard feeder tactics using pellets and boillies. The best barbel weighed 9lbs 12ozs (I really thought it was to be my first Wye double!) and the best chub was 5lbs 6ozs. Thank you Wye and Usk for a wonderful day.

Lovely, fantastic beat. Tough conditions but managed a good few fish from the upper end of the beat. All in great condition, fell to pellet and feeder tactics towards the evening

Beat:The Rectory Fishery

Fishing:Salmon

River on the lowside, was told it was on "compensation water", fished the fly on the Rectory pool, one fish showed, looked clean enough, but not interested in what I was offering, also fished the Rock but alas with no success, I`m sure I only fish because I like coffee and sandwiches, hopefully better luck next time I visit, the lady in the booking office was very helpful as it was my first visit to the foundation, explained all the ins and outs of the system/tickets etc, and I think it was Simon? was very helpful in showing where best to fish, lies etc, I`m near sure he guaranteed me a fish so maybe get a freebie next time, hahaha!!but I had a really nice day on the river, thank you.
