Fishing:Winter Grayling

Dry fly and nymph used, from rod and tenkara.
Very little sign of any fish although the river had a few pools, those caught were very small. Most of this beat is slow moving and canal-like. Access to the river is very difficult and some of the good pools are not accessible.
There s not enough fishing on this beat for three rods and the price does not represent value for money.

Beautiful Autumn day on the Ifron. There was quite a " hatch" of Willow fly, but the fish never really looked up.
one fish came to a small black and peacock spider,
the rest were caught on heavier nymphs, generally the fish were holding just on the tail of the faster water.
A good day out on a stunning piece of water.

My first time at the Upper Wye. A bit overcast but no rain to speak of. Myself and another angler on this beat today so we leapfrogged from midway up to the top limit over the day. I caught a number of good sized Grayling of a pound plus that came to a small copper head on the point or a micro hairs ear on the dropper. Very positive takes and great sport. The only thing that clouded the day was losing my net. Apart from this a very nice start to my week.

Good day with above average temparatures so plenty of hatches, mostly pale watery´s and dark olives, some sedge. 4 grayling taken on cdc emerger, largest to 1 1/2 pounds. Small out of season trout to about 1/2 pound taken on weighted nymph. Water a good height and a lovely time of year to be out on the river, even the sun put in an appearance early afternoon which triggered some good hatches and plenty of rises! Many fish missed probably due to my slow reactions but grayling can be tricky to hook on the dry no matter how quick you react! Great day once again!

Lovely beat wonderful access, fish hard to find. Tried swims throughout the beat, lots of minnows but only one chub of around two pounds and good barbel lost late in the day. Salmon showing all day long, very attractive beat, will be back.

We arrived at the river at 11.30 it is a very nice stretch we did investigate the wooded area and it is a challenge to get down to the river through there.
The river is very low and clear at the moment so we settled for the deeper water some 2-3 hundred yards upstream of the house and fishing hut. There are several comfortable swims there. The first fish was caught within 45 minutes - a Barbel of about 7lbs caught on a boilie.
Then it was a long wait untill it was getting dark before another bite and a nice 2lb Chub was landed caught on luncheon meat. Then the bites started which only resulted in one lost fish and several missed bites!
It is a lovely part or the Wye especially now the leaves are in colour. We stayed at the Red Lion Hotel at Bredwardine which has some 3 miles of fishing too.
Thank you WUF.

First time on this beat and loved it. Explored most of the pools and caught mainly on dries around the middle of the day (GRHE emerger).

A lovely beat, there were a few fly hatching, but not enough to bring the Grayling up consistently , there were plenty of "occasional" risers but nothing that you could target. Probably spent to long after the rising fish, heavy nymphs produced the one fish of the day, although spiders did get a few plucks. Mid Wales is stunning at the moment.

Went with my son, my cousin and his son. Had a really fantastic day thanks to great work and help from Oliver Burch and Kim Tribe. Oliver took my cousin and son in hand and really improved their casting. I learnt Czech Nymphing under Kim's expert eye. My own son was taught a great deal of river craft and picked up a lot of new skill. I would heartily recommend Kim and Oliver to anyone.
