I was taught a lesson here last time, decided the beat didn't warrant a net, you can be so wrong sometimes! No need today though, just a couple and several missed, again! An enjoyable few hours.

A few fish were rising but unable to fish the dry fly properly due to the strong, cold, downstream wind. Switched to a gold beaded PTN and managed 2 trout of 9 inches.

13.00-18.30, two wbt, nothing of any note. Fell to sedge in the flats both returned. This river does frustrate me, I blame it on the new waders!

Late start, so missed any early fish. Bumped in to Simon from WUF, trying to take advantage of the cloudy conditions himself. Thank you for the time showing me some lies, rewarded him by losing a fish within 5 mins! Sorry.
Rewards for the day, 1 shad(the run), 2 trout.

VIRGIN TENKARA TIME, had a go, what a great way to fish, 1 1/2 hours in the rock pool from 15.00.
rewards 2 trout, 1 grayling, best trout at 3/4lb, will do better next time, will fish the late evening when Salmon not on top of list.

Thanks Steve at Sportfish for the the loan of Masu, didn't stamp on it with frustration!

07.00 first cast bottom of steel steps salmon of around 8lbs followed around 30mins later a similar sized salmon from 20yds downstream in top end of willow run. Both on single barbless yellow/silver f/c. Also a very deep bodied shad that would have been 3.5/4lb, few years ago I had a shad of just over 6lb which must have been an Allis Shad from Wyebank that was also noted as deep in the body, it would be good to know we still have Allis run the Wye.
It should be noted that a pattern in Wyebank/Courtfield seems of early morning catches in the quiet nearside pools and we think the fish hold up after running the downstream rapids overnight. Several times multiple fish have been caught and often groups of fish seen still moving upstream in surface layer at early dawn. Probably the salmon held up below Monmouth have not dispersed much in reaching here.

Fished for salmon initially from top run through the rockpool to the chine with no takes using a cascade pattern brass tube and intermediate line. Water level steady at .61m. Not much rise of trout through the afternoon. Switched to a team of spiders for trout from 4.30 in woodstream landing 3 trout of around half pound all on partridge and orange spider. Switched from nymph on point to sparsely tied March Brown spider. Immediately into a big trout which jumped clear several times before tearing off line. Looked silvery so prepared for a battle. Took 20 minutes to land what turned out to be a 2 lb seatrout. A good day!!
