Return visit from a couple of days ago to fish the lower sections. The river is in reasonable condition but the slowest sections are a bit murky.
Massive amount of fly life throughout most of the day but with very little surface activity. Managed to rise 7 on deer hair emerger and yellow may fly pattern. Best was 11". For those that don't know -( I didn't) - the bottom fields on both banks are camping and caravanning sites. I only fished there as I spotted a few rises but I failed to connect. I suspected that these fish were a fair size. Managed not to hook a tent or the helpful child who was lobbing rocks into the river.
Moved upstream and stayed until 6:00ish when thunder indicated a storm approaching - so decided it was not best to stand in a river with a 10' lightning conductor in my hand!

Strange day that promised a lot but delivered little.
Plenty of fly life and fish rising - but could not tempt them. Tried the whole fly box. Ended up with 2 10" wbt and 1 8" oos grayling, one on a small olive, one on a grayling steel blue and one on something small and brown.

Nice day out, Lost a very good salmon on a Rapala (20lb+). Hooked the fish and 3 minutes later the plug came back and the treble was crushed. Stronger hook next time. Also turned another smaller fish and missed a good take in Loxters. Saw 5 fish all day. Thanks to Terry again for the help.

1 Small Brown trout taken on a nymph, Very little surface activity. No fish taken. Nice location, great day out and friendly landowners at Ashford house. Found some of the deep wades to fish in the pools were challenging for relatively inexperienced fly fishers, thoroughly enjoyable though. On-line booking really easy and efficient, thanks.

Great day on the Ithon, 15 trout from 4 - 10 inches and one salmon par. Seven of the trout were in the 8-10 bracket. Started on Nymph and had one small one, then saw some smaller fish rising, as I'm a beginner I took the chance to practice a little upstream dry and was rewarded with some more smaller fish. This gave me confidence to then fish the rest of the day on dry experimenting with various Klinkhammer patterns.
There were very few fish rising but this didn't stop the trout taking anything I put in front of them, missed lots and lost a few.
Fantastic day, thanks again WUF

Last year I fished this little river in a mayfly hatch and whilst there were regular flies hatching on Friday they hatched in far fewer numbers. Despite this, using a mayfly pattern seemed the best way of encouraging a rise. By late afternoon it was all over, although we did catch a couple more of fish on nymphs. I have normally never remained beyond this quiet time but as the sun was still shining we stayed and at about 7pm for 30 mins there was an evening rise when the fish showed themselves again - the fact we didn't add to our tally at that stage was due to nothing other than our own incompetence.

First time for RJ and I at Trelough Pool. Previous feedback was very helpful in planning for the trip and on arrival carp were showing in the arm nearest the car parking. Fished most of the day down by the big oak tree at the far end picking up a couple of 6 lb's on corn and small roach, bream and perch from the margins. As reported by others the lake is shallow, we wondered whether an old fashioned raking would work here. Many thanks to the WUF for making this water available, we will be back.
