Started fishing early and for 4 hours caught only small perch on the bay on worms, both float fished and on the bottom. Nothing on my fly rod even though some fish were seen rising, then again I am a novice at fly fishing and don't even know what flies to use! Later I moved to the slope by the dam wall and managed another 3 perch and 3 trout to the bubble float fished worm, too windy to fly fish. All fish returned to fight another day.

Low water, clear. Biggest trout 9 inches. My friend lost his battle with a salmon at the bottom of the beat on size 4 line while chasing little trout. He said there are no big fish in these waters. All fish on deep polish nymph. Other fish were twait shad, if I'm not wrong, sort of 2 lb sardines, very good fighters. Late surface activity started after 9pm when we just finished for the day. All returned. Next time. Thanks.

Nice day fishing. Difficult at times but rose to dry flies, average 12 inches.

River was slightly coloured and low. Nonetheless, there was a steady late morning rise which targeted a mixture of lacewings and mayflys. The hatch died off at lunch time and did not return. 2 x 1lb+ brown trout were taken on small, gold head nymphs. Fished across the current and stripped back. 2 x 6-7" brown trout taken in a similar manner on similar technique, all fish returned in good condition. A mink was spotted halfway down the beat by the old croy. A great days sport!

Mainly klink & dink tenkara style, struggled on the first section up to the weir pool. If you reenter via steps above weir beware gets very deep just after. Day saved in upstream pool where it splits with 6 wbt up to 12". Interesting beat with wide variety, needs another visit to do justice - lovely surroundings.

Surprisingly few trout rising, given the conditions. Could see plenty in the clear water though...

We also caught perch. We used worm as bait floating between 3 and 5ft off the bottom, all 4 fish were caught on worm. We also tried float fishing and spinning but had no luck with these methods.
Whilst fishing there was a diseased trout with a skin condition struggling to stay alive, swimming on top of water near banking. I was able to catch this fish with the landing net and subsequently put it out of its misery.

We were looking for a day of dry fly fishing - from 12 - 3 o'clock there was plenty of fly life and the fish duly obliged - it took us a while to work out they were taking emerging flies and once we changed to fish a CDC emerger - 4 fish came in quick succession. And then it was over, the fly life disappeared and for 2 hours we looked longingly at the river with barely a rise before packing up and heading home.

Spent a few hours after lunch on this lovely little stream. Lots of flies including quite a few mayfly and fish rising throughout the beat although they didn't seem to be too interested in the mayfly yet. Fished a small para Adams and had some great fun but be warned, if like me you spend too much time day dreaming, watching the wildlife and generally not paying enough attention then these lightning fast little trout will make a monkey out of you as they did to me today!!! Must of missed at least 5 times as many as I caught!!

26 to hand today all released safely. Spent 5 hours on beat covering rises from the larger fish today. All fish fell for cdc loopwing emerger (mayfly). Several shook hook also. Largest three were all roughly 14 inches, ten or so 12 inches the rest around the ten inch mark. Water levels dropping and with the glaring sun made for a stealthy approach. Lovely day on the Escley.
