River clear but flowing strongly when we arrived about 09:30am. Temp below freezing. The ice in the margins didn't melt all day and it was still below freezing when we called it a day when the sun dipped below the hills. The grayling are there as other catch reports confirm but we were not minded to risk kamikaze wading to get into a position to fish the deeper holes where we suspect they lay. Two rises seen in the midday burst of sunshine but we mainly stuck to deep nymphs with little success. One oos brownie obliged and a shoal of grayling rewarded with three hook ups but only one to hand. On the margins temperature wise for us older chaps to be deep wading. time to invest in a trotting rod!

Fished from 10.00am till 3.30pm, the water still quite high but could wade with care although there are some tricky spots if you don't know the river. Cold with a brisk north-easterly wind and no sign of life until midday when I found 3 grayling the biggest around 13", all taken on goldhead nymphs. In the final pool of the beat I had the last fish 14". All the fish were surprisingly docile and came with little fight. Cold but productive day and good to be out...thanks to all at WUF.

Two of us worked very hard from about 10am for 4 small grayling and a wee brownie. No obvious explanation for this meagre return given C K's impressive 22 grayling on Saturday. All fish took a red tag during a 1 hour period after lunch.

10.00am to 15.45pm, 18 grayling mostly 10 to 12 in but one male at 16inch, 3 oos WBT one at 19inch. Pin and Trotting red/white maggots on soft action 10ft old kevlar rod that allowed me to net all fish hooked, that's a first for grayling fishing for me.
WHOEVER GOT TROTTING ARRANGED ON THIS BEAT DESERVES A MEDAL! Spoilt for choice with plenty of variety and depth and relatively easy wading.
Dipper sat on rock 20 yds upstream, sparrow hawk comes upstream under my rod and hits dipper, big splash, dipper flies off and sparrow hawk in stream, got it in my landing net to the bank where it sat on branch drying out for half-hour then flapped off.
I will return to this beat next winter.

8 x grayling 10-12 inches, 1 x out of season trout (wild) 11 inches, trotting. Another sunless and misty day, but warm enough at 10 degrees in the afternoon. Not too much colour in the Arrow, but still a bit high and turbulent. A few grayling in the edddies and slacks, but I couldn't find them in the runs today. The grayling weren't really keen and no big ones, but it was pleasant to potter along one of my favourite small river beats in Herefordshire. Tony the owner came along, looking to spot salmon redds.

River now in superb condition, all of the 3 + miles of fishing available. 4 barbel and 1 chub to the cz nymph. Sink and draw sprats caught all 3 jacks to 8lb but no big fish showed any interest. All the sport came from beat 5 then ran out of daylight.

All fish were taken on float fished maggot and varied between 1lb and 6ozs. River was at a nice level and clear.
I saw three or four salmon during the day, leaping clear of the water and cavorting about; I don't know why.
Also saw the remains of a salmon, probably predated by an otter, judging by the damage. There were many otter footprints on the bank but I also saw a mink.

River was a little higher than I would have hoped, but certainly fishable. Struggled for long periods until I found the occasional shoal of fish, all in the 6-10 inch range. Felt the need to fish this stunning beat one more time this year, and will return next year after some warmer fishing in the Thai Jungle over Christmas.
