Sometimes you have to forget the distance travelled and the cost of the trip and just put it down to experience on days like this. On arrival the wind blew so that I chose to move my car away from under the trees at the lower end of the beat! Gave the river here a go (you know what we're like) but was beaten off by the elements. It was a case of thinking that the wind had dropped but upon re entering the river your cast came back at you faster than you could get it out. Never mind, another time eh? Note to J S, perhaps the conditions failed the cigar and brandy being waded out to me ! Lol.
Thanks to all at WUF, another enjoyable escape.

The river looked lovely. There was a strong cold wind which may have kept the fish down. When I arrived there were grannom on the wing, and a hatch was under way. I saw 5 rising fish, but failed to entice any of them. The hatch ended and there was no sign of fish. I kept on my dry fly on, as I was keen to try and catch a rising fish. At about 3pm the grannom started hatching off again, and a few trout started rising, but once again they ignored my offerings. A lovely day, though sad I never solved what the trout wanted.
This beat at this height of water ~ 10" on the Brecon gauge is a seriously deep wade. I had water to within inches of the top of my waders, and I'm a big lad. Worth noting if your planning to fish Chain Bridge.
No trout, but many questions !

It was a shame that temperatures today plummeted and the wind picked up. The recent WUF trout reports on the Edw being a river of the moment had to slow for someone, although for just a little bit I thought I was going to have a big day! My first cast of the season tempted up a 10" WBT to a Para Adams and then within 6 casts two more from the same pool one of which a nice 12" fish. However, that was more or less it. Cold gusts, the absence of any significant fly-life and my stubbornness to stick with drys, meant only one more fish later in the day after lunch. Cregrina is a great beat and varied and the top half is not as featureless as I presumed after reading the beat sheet. I enjoyed the whole and noted that it had been recently cut back a bit.

Fished for about three hours using pheasant tail and copper head nymph patterns. No signs of fish rising and unfortunately no takes. Found access difficult due to fencing close to river with few access points.

An amazing start to a fairly chilly day. I caught eight good fish over a pound a couple pushing 2lbs and all in the first two hours of fishing (9-11am). All took a well weighted large gold headed hair's ear fished kiwi style under a Klinkhammer. When the sun came out there were sparse hatches of march-browns (I think, though my fly knowledge is poor) which encouraged some fleeting and fitful rises. By lunch time the wind picked up and I lost a good fish who I'm afraid carried away my nymph with him. Much as I tried, my clumsiness must have angered the fishing gods as I couldn't find the fish and the wind was causing me all kinds of anguish. I headed for home around 4pm, tired and content. All fish returned to their friends and family.

Early hatch of granom and good hatches of LDO and March browns later. Windy conditions made presentation upstream difficult. Fish to just below a pound.

River low and clear. Bright sunshine after early rain, and a strong, cold downstream wind. Modest hatch of LDOs and one or two March browns which bought a few fish up to rise sporadically. They seem to be getting fussier, or perhaps the wind made presentation tricky. 4 good fish caught, but many more refused or slashed at the fly but not hooked.

Temperature 10c lower than previous day, chilly wind, river pushing through nicely. A trickle of olives of various sizes along with the odd March brown but not sufficient to tempt the residents up. Klinked and dinked for the most part resulting in two skinny, wintered trout, 8" and 12".
Easy access, easy wading and nestled in beautiful surroundings. There are several trees down, and whilst this provides good trout habitat, it's very difficult to get a decent drift for your fly in and around these trout holding areas.
Lovely to be back on the water.
