Overcast and chilly but recent rain had put some babble in this brook. Simple wading but for the most part under canopy and I was thankful for my little 6'6" brook rod allowing a cast in some pretty tight places.
A trickle of small and medium olives encouraged sporadic rises. Stubbornly stuck to dries (CDC emerger for the meanders and para adams for the riffles) and was rewarded with 12 wbt, for the most part 4"-7" but one chubby 10"er, it's fins trimmed with a striking flash of red.
This beat provides 3 to 4 hours of stealthy fishing and would be enjoyed by anglers who enjoy tight casting with small tackle at modestly sized wbt. I loved it and will return.

6 Chub to 5.5lbs, a PB for me. No barbel. I think the otter which paid me a visit scared them away. Thanks to Terry for the advice.

Its a long walk to the top of the beat from the parking and when you get there its is very overgrown. We saw a few fish move but they looked stale and no takers.

What happened to the weather, even cooler in the morning. The barbel and chub didn't want to play ball. The river had cleared and was back down to a very low level.
Needless to say the barbel eventually came out to play. Nothing huge but to 8lbs 12oz. Everyone in the party caught a barbel so happy days. It was cold during the day and the barbel didn't show much interest until the evening. A great day and everyone enjoyed it and will return for sure.

Area:Monnow

Beat:Monnow Valley

Fishing:Trout (River)

Spent just a couple hours but no sign of anything moving. No fly life and no takes on nymph. Not easy to access water due to steep banks and vegetation. Water too deep to wade in many places.
