A very cold day made the pike fishing very slow, one fish was landed on a lure which weighed about 12lbs. Will have to have another go at some point.

Tough day, river low and clear. Barbel not playing ball. A few pike on lures saved the day.

A beautiful day dawned, blue cloudless sky, light breeze, cold with ground frost. Arrived at 7.45, parked up at upper section of beat - only one peg adjacent to parking area. Walked to upper limit of beat but no further access to the river available. River was lower than expected with clear water. With three of us making up the group, decided to try the lower section which had more pegs available. Set up on adjacent pegs.
With no fish caught apart from B P’S (8oz) Trout, C H decided to venture downstream and with a little luck and a ''Don’t stop believing'' enthusiastic attitude, shortly netted the catch of the day, a 4lb 9oz Chubb using a rolling ledger, luncheon meat and a good portion of fishing know -‘HOW’– Jack Hargreaves would have been proud !
R E drew a blank. He is a draughtsman after all!!
Disappointingly no further catches to report but we couldn’t complain, just felt privileged again to be on the banks of this beautiful stretch of river in this wonderful part of the country enjoying the sunshine and spectacular scenery and not forgetting the company of the ever present magical wildlife.

After nearly a week of damp but not drenching weather, I took a risk that the Lugg would be at a fishable level. It wasn't, by a foot or two, unning fast, somewhat coloured and carrying a lot of leaves and debris. As if that wasn't enough the wind had come strongly round to the North and biting cold. I blanked after three hours effort. No discernable takes as the flotsam coming down plucked at the weighted hot-spot nymphs I tried. To think I even tied a couple of dries the night before! Oh for a 2oz lead and a bunch of lobworms! Still this Eyton water gives plenty of clues that it's a quality flyfishing beat when the conditions are friendly. Note to management: the 'stile' toward the bottom of the beat is derelict and impassable unless your atop a Grand National runner. The one at the top isn't much better and the path there to the end of the beat is overgrown and barely navigable. Don't visitors ever get to these extremities?

WUF note - Our volunteers will be addressing many access issues and overgrown undergrowth over the coming Winter months.

Fished the upper beat today, not the most prolific of sessions, I'm afraid the 4am start and the cold got the better of me. Still, a satisfactory return for me, 2x Grayling 14 and 16 ins + 1 o/s wbt of 12 ins. All to a Caddis. All safely returned.

What a shock to the system, really cold in the wind but river clear. Could see bottom around islands. Walked beat and set up just before railway piers. Complete blank for both of us. After booking this water take note of need to ring keeper and tell him you are coming, he is most helpful and confirmed we should not attempt the track to the lower car park with our vehicle in the current conditions. Walked down through wood as he suggested. Bit longer but it brings you out in the middle of the beat. Came back up the direct track from the lower cottage, doctor has suggested I take more exercise, in particular some uphill work - not sure he meant this steep but we took it slow and it was ok. Will certainly rebook in the future.

WUF note - There will be some slight alterations to the parking arrangements and map shortly for this beat to improve access and consideration for residents at the near by cottage.

Fished 11am to 6.30pm, a fairly cold day (approx 6 degrees), river quite low and clear. Started opposite the Weir Gardens on a gravel beach, caught 2 barbel (biggest 9lb) but lost too many feeders so moved up river to the next peg. Caught 3 more barbel and a very small chub. Mid afternoon moved down to the field you arrive in, caught another barbel and one more chub. All fish caught on 14mm pellet, despite alternating between pellet and meat. In total caught 6 barbel and two chub, a very enjoyable day.

Winter arrived on Friday, with a cold northely wind. Clear water with lots of leaves turning in the currents. Chub to 5.5lb and a beautiful 18.5lb pike. A great day but I had to work hard to get the bites.

Good level, nothing special, probably not lot of fish in this beat. Fishing with a very good fisherman with nymps and dry, just 1 small trout and 1 small grayling.
