The day started off overcast and showers, started off in the swim at bottom of fishery, a little tight with over hanging trees. Started to fish with pellet and groundbait with a few little bites, changed to bread crust and the chub started to bite.
What a lovely day fishing for chub but unfortunately no barbel. The water was rising and the sun started to come out so left at 3.30pm. This will be a great winter fishery with the amount of chub.

Beautiful stretch of river. No salmon but three excellent brown trout. Marking promising pools on the beat map would help anglers.

Water with a rise of 9 inches and constant weed flowing down and cloudy made the day impossible to fish. Packed up at 10.30 am given up as a bad day.

I had a good four hours fishing and caught a lot of trout but no Grayling. The fishing was relatively easy compared to some of the wild fish beats and I was able to use a 3.9m tenkara rod without any problem. I fished from about 4:pm to about 8pm and fish were rising all the time. The river was really low which meant that I did not need to wade in a lot of the pools.

Very pleasant afternoon, river low and clear but still a decent flow. The tree cover is quite dense in places, but not enough to stop fishing in most places - today the cover was quite helpful in providing shade so the trout were less easily spooked. Landed 15 to 11" from all stretches of the river, all on para adams or light olive. What could be better?

This is an eye-watering beautiful stretch with so many fishy-looking places it was hard to know where to start. I had a 4lb barbel first cast which got my hopes up, but sadly the rest of the day was a bit of a struggle. I tried a few swims and had a few small chub, 3 eels (including one 2.5lb+), and the smallest barbel I've ever seen (about half a pound). I didn't try the bottom field, as it was full of caravans (and will be all summer apparently). One of the caravaners was under the impression that he could fish all along the stretch.
A wonderful stretch and I'm sure I'll be back.

The weather forecast had suggested grey cloudy skies with occasional spots of rain but unfortunately I got several hours of baking sunshine which was probably not helpful. Access to the beats was easy and the river looked very promising but I came away having caught only 2 trout and without seeing a salmon. Oh for some rain.
