Dry fly fishing. The Usk water was clear and not very high in spite of some recent rain. I had a couple of bites but did not catch any fish. I was there for nearly three hours. I will go back another day.

First time on this beat and last day of our trip. Slow going during the day and a couple of anglers on the other bank meant we took a break for refreshments. On our return we fished a different area and settled in for the evening. After half an hour my friend hooked into a PB barbel, an immaculate fish of 10lb 5oz. A quiet spell followed which coincided with three anglers setting up on the private stretch, just after they left I finished the day with a 8lb 4oz barbel. Nice beat with plenty of swims to go at. Wildlife today - an otter in the dusk on the far bank. And so ends a great week with a total of 64 barbel and we lost count of the number of chub, looking forward to returning soon.

Fished the taf fechan yesterday from ponsarn viaduct upwards. Fished a 7ft 3# with a single olive klinkhammer. With the river in low levels I targeted in and at the side of faster water and behind behind boulders as that is where the fish are sitting to get more oxygen through their gills. Managed a catch of three dozen small fish up to 10 inches. All fish had a buttery bellies with stunning red spots. Please note that above the blue pool it is strictly fly fishing only, barbless hooks only and catch and release as it is a part of the wild trout trust.

2 of us arrived at Whitehouse late and fished from 7pm for 2 & 1/2 hours. Had 9 barbel up to 8.5lb, lost 2 plus 1 chub. First 3 fish in first 3 casts! Good sport for a late evening session. Not many swims cut out - concrete at the beginning of the beat or 2 swims at the end were only suitable access.

Fished 100 metres downstream of the bridge on the beach.
This rod caught 16 barbel all on 8 mm halibut pellets and feeders. Most of the fish ranged from 6 - 8lb. Another rod fished 100 metres beyond that and had the same result using the same method.
Longer hook lengths seemed to be the call! Before we found these, one of the guys fancied making his own swim only to find he was sitting on a otters nest which hissed at him. The other fisherman blanked and if you asked him, he would not go back, thought he had a good swim but couldn't avoid the weed.
