Not the best day's fishing we've had on here. Plenty of fish visible but we just couldn't them feeding consistently. A recommendation for the Portway Inn, an ideal base for the WUF waters NW of Hereford, good food, comfortable & reasonably priced rooms and Wye Valley bitter at £3/pint!

Brilliant day - good to have gone back to try what I learned the previous week. Only fished until 2pm and I'm sure the barbel would have come back on again at 4-ish as they so often do. The first barbel weighed 8oz - I thought it was a little eel at first - luckily mum and dad came along later. All the fish were immaculate. Lots of canoes but only one group got silly, parked up and started swimming and splashing about. The rest were fine. Thanks WUF.

My first Wild Stream trip as a season ticket holder. A couple of evening hours on the Arrow resulting in a nice 10in brownie on a Parachute Adams and a minnow on a pheasant-tail nymph almost as big as the fish. Plenty of fish rising along the beat although many small and very fast-taking (hence only the one trout to hand!). Stopped at the weir as the light was fading. Lovely beat, will return. Fly life good also, a few mays stillcoming off but plenty of smaller upwings as well.

First time on this water to find it running low and clear with bright sunshine above. Fished approx 9am to 7pm. Struggled to find fish most of the day if it had not been for the generosity of a fellow angler advising on how to fish a particular swim we would have had a poor return. Thankyou!
With the help of his advice caught two Chub to 3lb and 3 Barbel to 9lb in an hour.
Great venue obviously holding quality fish we will be back thanks W&U.

Day 3 of 5 and finally the barbel were feeding but only in Boys Rocks. Much of the lower reaches were unfishable due to very heavy weed growth. Essentially in low water conditions such as these Wyastone Leys is a very mediocre length with one great swim. Fish were caught on various pellets and boilies and feeder tactics.

The second of three days on Wyebank and had a quick fish in the morning before the procession of canoeists started. Managed a nice 7.5lb barbel and a small chub before breakfast. The river was very low and barbel could be seen in some of the more upstream shallower areas either feeding or possibly spawning. Although the canoeists tend to be a bit noisy and disruptive the fish seem to return almost straight away. I didn't fish again until early evening and this tactic seemed to pay off as soon as the sun went down the fish became far more confident and practically pulled the rod in several times. I used feeders and longish hook links with pellets or homemade meaty boilies for hookbaits. Only one minor problem was a gentleman arriving and electing to fish opposite the swim I had been occupying but after he was educated by Don about the finer points of practical geography he made his way elsewhere to leave me in peace to catch yet more great barbel and chub. This really is a great stretch, not only because of the fish but because you have the place to yourself, once the canoeists have thinned out!
