Some residents splashing in the Vanstone pool. Almost tempted one out of the Vanstone stream section, but not quite.

We fished both the Saturday and Sunday (21 and 22), due to low level of river the fishing was difficult. On Saturday evening my friend caught 3 barbell, best 8lb, and I managed a very small barbel. All fish caught on swim feeder and halibut pellet after 6pm. On Sunday my friend caught 7.5lb barbel at around 7.45 am then went dead. All these fish caught from swim about 200 yards upstream of Marl. In the evening we tried a swim about 150 yards upstream of Kerne bridge and my friend had barbel of 6.5 lb and I had chub of 4lb, both fish caught almost same time at around 7pm. Fishing definitely improves when light starts to fade.
We had some trouble with canoeists, one actually went through my line, but most were respective of anglers and during day fish did not seem to be interested. Other anglers on beat and also staying Flanesford Priory found fishing difficult due to low level of water.
Beautiful river though and would like to fish again when level higher.

Fished quite a few different stretches of the river Wye, but when I arrived at Caradoc I have to say it was better than I could have imagined, the scenery was stunning.
The river was very low and clear as I expected, so I decided to fish the fast water below the bridge. I used my bait dropper to feed casters and hemp and then rested the swim for an hour. It was impossible to feeder fish because of the weed coming down the river, so I decided to the best method was trotting a float through. I had two good chub straight away and as I was unhooking the second one I was joined in the water by two large dogs, the owners were on the top of the bank screaming at them to come back to them. Being a nice sunny day this sort of thing went on all day including two drunken girls swimming across the river. Anglers who book this stretch at a premium price should be aware that its limited to four anglers, but there are no restrictions to anyone else. I'm sorry to say I won't be returning.

We arrived on a glorious late summer morning to be greeted with some stunning scenery spoiled by a couple of cormorants flying overhead....The water level looked low and okish but this was our first visit to the Wye so it is difficult for us to judge the situation.
Great location but apart from 2 good fish we struggled to catch anything other than numerous micro dace and chublets which were there in abundance!! We did notice the presence of some Pike and this could be a good stretch for those who target them.
Our lack of experience was probably the root cause of a limited return. We enjoyed the challenge but would not fancy the walk back up the hill in wet conditions.

Weather was sunny. Most of fish came early before canoe traffic! Did not seem to fish as well as on previous visits. My favourite swim now being on Samon beat where had previously caught barbel to 12 pounds. Wooded area bit pointless as to shallow and full of weed. Lovely location still will come back next year.

Although water some inches below summer levels there was movement which gave us a chance. Trotted a float with maggots for numerous chublets but nothing of size. A switch to traditional pellet/feeder did bring 4 barbel to 4lb during the afternoon.
