Fished for two hours and had two barbel in the 5-6 pound bracket. Lots of canoeists and families picnicing on the beach - but they were all very pleasant.

First visit to this beat after a meeting in Cwmbran. The water was reasonably clear and the river flowing well after the weekend storms. I thought it was going to be difficult when the first fish seen rejected my ptn and then a fingerling attached itself to my hook. However, a fine 10" wbt took a deeply sunk spider and made my day. I then managed to miss two more fish before a heavy rain storm drove me back to the car. I shall return.

First ever visit to this stretch and was very impressed with not only the fishing but how well kept the stretch is! Fished the bottom end and caught all my fish on trotted hemp and corn and will certainly be back again!

River clearing and in good condition. Float fishing today - trotting corn and small pellets for a few hours morning and evening. Tremendous fun. Unlike yesterday (when I hunkered down under a brolly at the end of the beat) today it was on with the chest waders and I was able to fish down from the top of the beat to the bottom. Caught all along the beat.

1 small fish on spinner. Difficult fishing over last month. Lots of rubbish on the bank with people leaving everything from beer cans to numerous tins of sweetcorn and luncheon meat.

The river was in good shape after recent rain. Three Barbel in the morning between 3lb and 6lb, all on pellet. The afternoon failed to produce anything. A lovely spot which I know is full of fish. I recommend taking a float rod and walk about a bit trotting in the faster flows with bread/corn as well as feeder tactics.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Courtfield
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:1
6am to 8am in the morning rain, Lower Courtfield. Wye up a bit last 2 days and freshwater passing through. Spinning a small Mepps hoping for grilse moving upstream before water colours from the heavy rain. No salmonids seen or caught but 1 large chub of around 3 to 4lb and a pike around 7 or 8lb that gave a very good account of itself. Writing this at 2pm, heavy rain all morning. Wye here now coloured and up 6inches in last 3 hours, barbel prospects look excellent for coming week!
