One barbel at 6 1/2lb and saw 3 good salmon in the swim. Had a great time - fished from 10am untill 3pm and wished I had more time. Was sure I would catch more fish if I had been able to stay longer. Fished pellet for most of the day stitched to meat. Had 2 quick bites and one proper pull round.
Very pleased with the one fish as I haven't been able to get time off work for fishing. I will book again on a well looked after beat with good access and parking. Always good to fish on the Wye.

1 Barbel

Arrived at 11.00 a.m. to find 2 anglers fishing a shingle bank on the far side, casting over to How Caple side, making one swim unfishable.
Opted for the 2 swims either side of the unfishable one, and for the third day tried all sorts of tactics and baits, which eventually yielded a bite at 4.45, but no fish. Thankfully packed the factor 30. 3 days, nearly 60 combined hours of fishing for 4 fish (no barbel), what is the attraction of the River Wye? We will be back, after a spot of rain and a bit of cloud cover.
Couldn't work out where all the swims have been cut out, we counted perhaps 8 or 9?

River very low. Difficult to work out where we were on the beat despite Don's helpful notes. One decent chub and 5 small ones between both rods. Trotting corn and feeder fishing pellet. Retired at about 2.00 pm.

2 small dace on fly, both returned.

2 Other

Hard day on a low and clear river. Worked our way around the beat fishing all areas but nothing interested in the heat.
Still, the lack of fish action allowed us to really appreciate the wildlife and the beauty of this stretch of the Wye.
Will be back in the Autumn.

2 Trout

Not ideal conditions, very hot and clear sky. Both fish (2lb 14oz Chub & 2lb 3oz Barbel ) were caught on free lined luncheon meat, fished under overhanging cover.
We had a great day on this super little river, although finding a fishable swim was not always easy. Much of the beat had high banks dropping shear into deep water, whilst much of the rest was enveloped in jungle, just the kind of challenge I like.
The only downside were the large number of children occupying the opposite bank, jumping in from the high banks and throughing sticks and stones in for dogs. This did result in moving swims a couple of times, but did not spoil our day. Many thanks.

1 Barbel, 1 Chub

19.30 to 21.30. Lower Courtfield by 40mph exit under trees, freelined luncheon meat. Nothing happening until 21.00 then 3 chub, first 2 around 4lb size then last cast in poor light what I thought was a barbel turned out to be weighed a 6lb 7oz chub, my first 6lb plus chub.
The fishing has been slow lately, one angler blanks while a few yards away on similar tactics his friend catches so perhaps a little roving may be required. Most fish caught sunrise and sunset, barbel are being caught in lower wooded area but river needs a flush through or lower temperatures.
Otters on beat (and family of mink!), kingfishers nest in bank by island and a few coloured salmon in Leggs meadow.

3 Chub

Lovely days fishing. All fish fell to pellet mostly on feeder. Had a chat with Colin, lovely guy who does a great job. Back again October. Cannot wait.
