Walk down from carpark with our tackle wasn't easy, only half a dozen swims on the whole stretch were fishable as the banks were steep, slippery and about 25ft down to the water. Waders necessary to get to the islands. We walked to the bottom limit thinking we could fish to the old bridge supports only to find another angler in the swim just over the fence boundary on the next stretch down!! Felt a bit cheated. The walk back after a poor days fishing was pretty tough, even though we were travelling light. This is hardcore river fishing and I wouldn't recommend this stretch to anyone who isn't moderately fit or who doesn't own a 4x4 so they can park closer.

We fished Tynewedd on the way to Aberystwyth - and Gromain on the way back. A lovely soft day with a trickle of pale wateries hatching meant this was a much more successful day. The trout went to 14" but the grayling went to 18" - the best a lovely big solid cock fish that must have been well over 2lbs. All on dries and all returned. As was the clonker that took the fly and just sat there whilst I pulled - no movement, then the fly came away! Ah well, the 18" er was good compensation.
Squadrons of avian predators in the vicinity - a heron, 2 cormorants and at least 4 goosanders! But super fishing none the less.

A lovely day although a blank with very little rising. Connected with a couple of large grayling in the deeper pools on a nymph and a few trout rises to a dry in some of the faster runs.

Lovely wild stream with gin clear water and some big pools. Spotted lots of little trout but could not catch. Had 1 on for a 10 seconds it took a parachute Adams. Did manage to land 1 of about 6" on a PTN. A great morning fishing.

Lovely Autumn day with a reasonable flow on the river but still low and some floating weed causing problems. 4 barbel to 8.14 and 7 chub to over 4lbs. Not a red letter day but thoroughly enjoyable.

1 small salmon (red) returned. River looked good and plenty of fly about but trout were not playing. Thanks to Barry for a great day and will be looking to return soon when hopefully there will be a bit more water.

Such a fun day, great sport with grayling up to 3/4 lb on soft hackles and dry (stimulator size 14). A fine autumn day, and the kingfisher to keep me company.

The river was in perfect condition. I think it could have had a few more fish, as the habitat was very good. Flies used and caught fish on: Shuttlecock, CDC Caddis grey, Red Tag, hare's ear nymph. Lost two fish.
We stayed in the Carlton Riverside, which was okay. However, the landlord was not aware of the need to book tickets online. Happy to see dippers and kingfishers.
Met a very happy Simon Evans at the river after he just received news about the record numbers of Salmon fry ;-) Thanks for your great river conservation efforts and congratulations to the salmons' return!
