Started at 9am on the top crib and worked down. Sometime after midday had a very gentle take to the spinner, the culprit turned out to be a 12.5lb fresh run cock - safely returned. Fished down past the bridge and back up but no further fish. Saw three different fish head and tail at various points during the day.

A little more water than expected and slightly coloured. Grayling took a dry fly at about midday and 2 small trout on GBGRHE. Trickle of olives through the middle of the day but very little surface activity. Warm spring sunshine and the valley looked a picture.

Recent small rise still slightly rising but colour not too bad. Gave the whole beat a good going over with Flying C's and Devons but only action was a kelt.

Typical spring day - bright, breezy and fresh. River at a really good height for this beat, water carrying a tinge of colour and predictably cold for March.
Apart from a dense, 5 minute flurry of March Browns at midday, little in the way of fly life. Just one rising fish in the 4 hours spent on the water.
Managed 2 pretty wbt of around 10" and one oos grayling of around 15". All caught on weighted nymphs.
As ever, good to be casting a fly after a long, wet winter.

Again the Wye looked promising. Fished fly only on beats 5 and 6 [6 better of the two]. One salmon seen on beat 6 but only managed to catch 2 trout on a stoats tail.

Too much colour? Too much sun? Who knows; the conditions were just about as good as it gets. Fished the beat through but alas, not a fish to the fly....
Maybe next time!
