What a BEAUTIFUL BEAT!!!!!!! Short session with the boy blunder, none caught but literally myriads of life under EVERY stone we turned over, large hatch of what looked March Browns and also loads of other what I call "flutter" flies! (no doubt an experienced fly fisherman would identify the type!).
Didnt see one rise though...although that was probably more to do with our clumsy wading! Session had to be cut short as twin granddaughters 3rd birthday beckoned! WILL DEFINITELY be visiting this beat again. Incidentally......on the way back to Builth just down the road from Hergest bridge came across an area of the river known as "The Common".....TROUT EVERYWHERE down there! please please WUF get us on there!!!

Lovely day with the river running clear. Water not too cold either when I realised I had holed my waders at the start! Slow stream of olives but I did not see one rise all day. Nevertheless, caught 6 at 9" to 11" from various deep streams and tree root channels on hares ear nymphs. Also 4 came off. All trout lean but in good condition.

The Gillies advice was spot on! (really appreciated him pointing us in the right direction over the phone as he was not available on the day)
My salmon estimated at 14lbs took at 9:40am opposite the hut with a good pull from a second 10 minutes later. A good fish leaped above me also. Red Flying C did the business as advised with water fining down after high water earlier in the week. My fishing partner managed a nice trout on the lower beat on the fly. Great access to the river really enjoyed our time here.

3 small trout about 4", 1 good fish of 14", all on goldhead hares ear, all returned. Good weather, decent amount of fly life about but not many fish rising to dries (only saw 1 rise), hence the nymph.

River conditions were good - slight colouring of the water. I was using a black and silver dry fly for sea trout and caught the brown trout on it late on in the day.

River quite high and water carrying a bit of colour. Hatches at around 1.00 and 3.00 but no rises. Didn't bother with dries, stuck to nymping but with no success! Still, a glorious day to be out on such a beautiful stretch of river.

First time either of us had fished a River for Trout, so our Zero Scorecard says more about us than the River which met or surpassed our expectations. Excellent water quality and what looked like the perfect level; The Passport description is very accurate, especially where it says, "Wading medium to difficult". Chest Waders are a must although I did manage with Waist waders even though some fine looking Pools were out of my reach.
Temperature rose steadily through the morning, after a cold night, with the sun strong enough to colour my neck! A superb hatch of March Browns occurred around 12.30 and again about an hour later but even that didn't seem to get the Fish rising, despite having various artificial MB's in my box.

An amazing days fishing. We only took 1 rainbow of around 1 and half pounds, but caught 19 between me and my son (he won 10 to 9). We caught 1 on worm, 5 on rubber shad lures and 13 on spinners. All caught on the east side with the biggest around 3lb and all returned in perfect condition. A day that we will remember all of our lives.
