Had a great day on wyebank today, started at 10am fishing from the groin next to bottom pool and had 2 barbel around 6-7 lb between 11am and midday after a wasted 1st hour trying to fish the far bank tree line in an impossibly fast flow before I realised the barbel were only 1 3rd of the way out in the walking paced water towards the bottom pool to my left. Then had a 2 hour lunch break (my fault for taking the wife!!) before moving to the last swim on the bottom pool after a quick chat to Don the bailiff who put me on the fish straight away and caught 2 chub ,one of which was over 20 inches long and in winter could have easily gone 6-7 lb on my first two casts using luncheon meat. Then a swap to pellets on the hair saw me catch 3 barbel between 6 and 7.5lbs before a I got snapped on the rocks and whilst re-tackling up about 50 kids in 20 kayaks went noisily past and even stopped in my swim (bless them) but this clearly didn't disturb the fish as on my very next cast I had another barbel and then another to round the day off. Used groundbait feeder with hemp and pellets sandwiched in middle and a 3 foot hooklength. Cheers WUF for another fantastic day on the wye and I will definitely be back.

Access was fine, directions easy to follow. Very short walk to first swim by the power lines. Having read the reports here, I was very pleased to find it free, then again I was the only rod booked on! Again, based on reports here I started by fishing the middle of the river to avoid the nearbank tackle graveyard. One hour in, no bites (started at 1pm btw). After an hour, I messed up a cast and it only went about a third of the way out. Best mistake I've ever made, as my hair-rigged sweetcorn fished beneath a feeder full of pellets and ground bait was snaffled, a barbel of 6.12 turned out to be the culprit. Nine of his mates followed at regular intervals throughout the afternoon. I didn't lose any tackle to snags, though a couple of fish got away by snapping my 10lb mono hook length. All in all, the best days fishing I've ever had. Thanks v. much WUF, superb fishing in superb surroundings with superb service. Fish took sweetcorn, Sonu s-pellets - never tried meat, didn't feel the need. So ten barbel between 5 pounds and 8 pounds. Wonderful.

What a day! Got off to a bad start by parking in the wrong place (obviously brain-dead since the parking instructions are quite clear!) and confirming that the gale that was forecast was in fact going to be blowing downstream, which it duly did all day. However, once warmly welcomed to the beat by the owner and given a few steers on the lie of the land, it was off to pastures new. I do love exploring new beats and this one appears to be a gem. Access is very well maintained and it offers a great variety of water, only a little of which there was time to sample. On a day which was so incredibly windy, and certainly not one on which one would choose, of all things, to go fly-fishing, it was amazing that there were so many clearly suicidal olives hatching for so long! However, they didn't elicit much response from the fish until mid-afternoon when a few grayling decided to head for the surface for a while. Prior to this, having found some gravels with a bit of depth and pace to the water, I caught four grayling and two trout (fishing duo), three to the dropper (E H Caddis) and three to nymphs. Once the fish took to the surface, I had a further five grayling, four coming to a Mmall Dark Olive Duck's Dun pattern and the other to a Grayling Steel Blue. Most of the grayling were 12-13" fish and one a 14" 1.25 pounder. Given the conditions, for me, all of this was "a result", and I look forward to returning, and hoping to sample the bigger fish that are reputed to live here - I hope, under kinder conditions than 12-13 degrees plus some serious wind chill - at least it didn't rain (much!).

First time on this beat which is both picturesque and interesting fishing. However, the water was falling and with no fish showing except for a few small spashy rises in the shallows the end result was a blank.

Only two rods fished on the day. Fish caught and successfully returned were - 1 grayling (2lb) on small copperhead nymph, 2 wild brown trout (approx half pound each) on same nymph and 2 small salmon approx 4 inches in length. It was a fabulous day on one of the most beautiful rivers I have fished. I will definitely be back. Thank you for your help. Kind regards.

The last day of our 5 day trip was spent in familiar territory with very blustery weather. During the day, we tried swims up river and had a few barbel to 6lbs 10oz and a half dozen chub to 4lbs 8oz, all on pellet. For the evening we set up in the pylon swim hoping for a final rush of barbel but they decided to be very cagey and we had to be content with three to 6lbs 2oz between us. By 7pm it died completely so we packed up for the trip home. Thanks to WUF and staff for a very enjoyable week.
