All fish were caught early and late in the day. Fished a few swims along the beat but it was the top and bottom sections of the beat with the faster flowing water that produced all the fish. Used Hinders elips barrels with pva bags of elips pellets. Bait droppered every hour with hemp and pellets. I think that once there is a few extra feet of water this will make catches a bit more consistent throughout the beat. Would be nice if swim access from pumping station up to Shut Pool could be improved. On arriving at the Shut Pool/ Swan Pool there was a chap fishing the Bishops Wood bank which was a bit disappointing and unexpected. I have now come to realise you can acquire a day ticket for £5 ! for the Bishops Wood bank.
WUF Note: there are plenty of river Wye fisheries that offer cheaper day tickets. However, angler numbers on these beats are usually unrestricted.

Beat:Aramstone

We arrived at the top of the beat after lunch and in the dry. By 5.00pm, heavy rain had turned the swims into a slippery mess and we had to exercise great caution. We managed 6 good barbel to 8lb 8oz before conditions became unsafe and we left around 6.30pm. The long, wet walk up the hill to the car required a fair bit of puff from those of us drawing our pensions and the new part of the path was too muddy to walk on. However, the new car park and access was appreciated.

After fishing your stretch of river at Llanstephan and Llangoed I found the coarse fishing beyond bad. Three days without a bite. I have fished all round the country but never fished a river so poorly stocked. I would not recommend this beat to anyone.

Beat:Pwll y Faedda near Erwood
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
11 x trout 6-11 inches, 7 x grayling 8-15 inches, fishing dry with a small Grey Duster. A chilly, dark day with a stiff downstream breeze. The upper river is still very low, but - did anybody else notice? There was a quick rise and fall yesterday of about 3 inches, I supposed due to heavy showers somewhere upstream. The water still has a blackish/brown tinge to it although the level has dropped back. A few salmon were showing again - after a long wait they can smell the rain coming!

Fished from 7.30am - 3pm, lots of activity, lots of rises all day but just couldn't hook into anything. Lots of takes on Grey Duster and some sizeable jumping and rising. Surprising really as the second pool produced an otter that sat about 4 feet away from me. Fabulous day even though nothing landed, I will be back!
