Beat access track in description now incorrect, no access vehicle access possible via the track (overgrown and blocked by a massive boulder halfway down) so a walk of about 1/2 mile to the downstream limit, but this is in need of some maintenance for walking with rods setup before long as the trees and vegetation are closing in. Banks are also overgrown but two of the cribs, fancy and bakers are just about accessible via metal handrail/steps but bakers steps are treacherous as just strips of rusted iron remain . Wading only possible to the cribs so limits the fishing on the cadora flat and top of the stream to a few marks.

No fish seen, I expected the odd resident on the flat at this perfect height. Clarity ok-ish but still murky.

Strong winds made for tough fly fishing conditions so finding a more sheltered spot was crucial. Unfortunately we found access to the water from the tracks very difficult away from the dam with thick undergrowth and trees right up to the water (which was at a high level). We could have done with some information indicating where bank fishing is possible together with access points. This said, we did stumble across a foot track which led to a small cleared bank area and managed to catch a perch and rainbow trout using the ever reliable BFD.

Well,a really pleasant four hours here ..... I must say , when I bowled up at eleven was nice to chat with the farmer, who was genuinely concerned about the lower Wye pollution and sewage in our River systems ..... I commented that this has always been good, along with the Upper Wye .. ... Sometimes the dead algae can be a problem, but the head of fish here is very good in fairness.....
Fishing was fun today ... dry fly for me as always..... a size twenty iron blue did the business , thirteen to my net, a few more didn't quite make it, and self released ..... so polite !!!! Sizes from eight to eleven inches ..... With the Polaroids on,there's some crackers here always has been to be honest ......
Nice easy fishing, no jungle warfare tactics today, just a plain simple slow wade, very slow, as the pools are low and clear .... casting to risers, such fun..... that satisfying splashy rise to your fly ....... never tire of it !!!
Got out ten to three, a slow bimble across the fields .... superb stuff .... back here very soon as its very local tbh ...... Nice change from the Edw ..... cracking stuff......... Rain tommorrow it seems , hoping the Bracken clock will be showing in numbers up at Claerwen Reservoir by the weekend ..... we shall see !!!!

River very low and clear, caught on bottom dropper nymph in a pool of deeper water, 2 other fish lost and 2 more ‘plucks’ on nymphs, tough going on a bright day.

An absolutely lovely and very tough section to fish. I didn't see a lot of fish, despite some insect hatches, particularly midges and winkled out a few lovely and pretty brownies from secluded spots. All in all I enjoyed it and would likely revisit. Sadly, however, the beat information is dangerously out of date/ and / or inaccurate. I never found any beat markers, or "White posts" to follow down into the gorge to the beat start. I never found any start or end markers, despite actually managing to finish exactly at the Felindre Farm. I passed two foot bridges, which don't merit a mention on the map or description. This is a remote beat and strenuous to negotiate, having never been on this water previously it was somewhat nerve wracking to be unsure where the start was, where the end was, or indeed if I might ever get out of the gorge. I loved the place, but the beat information is dangerous. I am used to "winging it" in more risky situations than this, but all in all, the beat information and the markers do need to be updated for the enjoyment and safety of other anglers. In the end I had a pleasant day, caught a few fish and deciding that "discretion is the better part of valor", I walked back to Erwood along the road, rather than risk the gorge. As said, I thought a lovely, if physically challenging beat, but the map and beat information really do need to be updated.
