A perfect hour of late evening fishing after a long day in the car. A fish would have been icing on the cake, but no matter. There were a few small trout rising, but very spooky in such low water.

Guided by OB from Gloucestershire. Water very low and a long hot afternoon searching the beat with absolutely nothing rising. Occasional late mayfly and a few evening sedge, but nothing happening. In the last hour before dark, a nice wild trout of 15 inches plus a couple of small chub on dry fly.

River low, bright conditions, hardly any ripple on the water so not the best of conditions. Had fish from several swims, Colin the baliff very helpful as always. Barbel to 6lbs+ chub to 5lbs+. Many thanks to Wye and Usk Foundation, you do a great job.

Water level now very low, apparently as low as its been for 25 years. Hard going and whilst we managed to salvage the day with 3 barbel of the 5-7lb stamp and a small chub, they only came out to feed late in the day.

Area:Usk - Wild Stream
Beat:Lower Grywne Fawr
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
In very hot, dry conditions the water was extremely low and trout difficult to tempt. I did get a few offers to small dry flies, but didn't connect with anything. The coppicing has undoubtedly improved the beat but a little more maintenance would not go amiss. However, access is straightforward and the directions to the beat are easy to follow.

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Courtfield
Fishing:Coarse
No. of Anglers:2
River very low fished normal pellet and feeder tactics as always on this stretch, fished in every swim for the entire courtfield stretch only to have two 3lb Eels at midday on first day. After walking the river and seeing a lot of fish spawning decided to fish first couple of swims on Courtfield section from Wyebanks end. I free lined bread and after a bit of perseverance had a 4ld chub quickly followed by a 5lb 7oz lump followed by another eel of at least 2lb. Will try and book again when we have more water in the river. Both morning saw salmon topping in the meadow section.
2 Chub, 3 Other
