Weather brilliant sunshine, strong breeze good ripple. Fly used mallard & claret fished in the ripple. Took 5 fish from perhaps 20 takes (missed to my shame). Changed to parachute sedge which took 6, all strong takes bigger fish. This is a beautiful wild fishery.

Good morning. Although the area is stunning we had some pretty poor conditions. The temperature was 27deg plus and the river was very very low. We both used dry fly throughout. The largest of the 3 was about 3/4lb, the other two were appreciably smaller. The river temp was quite high and the few fish we saw had little cover and were very skittish. Saying that the fish caught were in very good condition.
We will try again later in the season and hope for better conditions. Regards.

Baking hot day and low clear river so we expected to struggle. Surprisingly the first few fish came in the early afternoon. Best barbel 8lbs. All caught on pellet. We all really enjoyed the day.

Usual pellet method on a feeder from lunch until late evening seeking barbel. No show - we both blanked sadly. It was very hot. A very beautiful part of the river and unlike previous visitors we felt there were sufficient swims. A fisherman on the opposite bank caught 23 barbel (or so he said!) but in the morning from 9am until 12pm which, considering the heat was the better decision.

2 x trout, 12 inches and 15 inches. After a day of quite breath-taking heat - for this country - a rather quiet evening with almost no rises seen, although there was a reasonably good ripple and I fished on till 10 o'clock. At least the midges stayed away and a couple of nice fish came up before dark to hit the Kate Maclaren on the top dropper. A pleasant bank-side chat with a visiting rod on a WUF ticket, who also had one.

Beat:Glanusk Estate Fishery
Fishing:Trout (River)

6 WBT caught and released. Best fish was approx 1.5lb. All caught using klink n dink with point fly copper bead head Endrick Spider taking one on the Quarry stretch and the rest taken on a bead head red kneck PTN between Campwll and High bank. Water was quite coloured with good flow but not fished the Usk before so don't know if this is the norm for this beat at this time of year. Outstanding fishery and ability to drive majority of the beat also very useful.
