Only able to fish until 12.00 - No fish caught. Trout rising at 08.00 but not taking on any flies presented. Dry, wet (nymphs etc.) or lures. Wind picked up and expected takes but none forthcoming. Bit disappointing but that's fly fishing!

Conditions were totally against us - hot, bright sunshine and many canoeists. Still, first time fishing Goodrich and sure it would be a lovely beat in the right conditions. Saw a couple of resident fish show in the Vanstone but that was it.

The river was very low and very clear but beautiful none the less. Every pool was dominated by Salmon Parr which beat the trout to the fly every time and left us a little frustrated. I suspect we would have seen more decent trout if we had been around in the evening. In the end we caught five Salmon Parr despite trying not to! Good news for Salmon stocks that there are so many parr in the river, but not so good for trying to catch Trout.

Amazing stretch that is not for the weak of limb! Only had a couple of small brownies in the low clear water on dry flies but enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. This deep gorge has a prehistoric feel to it with many fallen trees and a million beautiful ferns. We saw native white claw crayfish in the pools and an interesting variety of bird life. Was slightly concerned to find two guys panning for gold in one of the bigger pools as they seemed to be creating a fair old bit of upheaval. Still they were friendly and polite.

As we were fly fishing we headed for beats at the upstream end of the fishery. However being one of the hottest days of the year so far and being a weekend, we were certainly not alone on the river. Started casting some flies at Biblins crib only to be invaded by a large group of people swimming and generally thrashing about. Too many to confront. Moved down to Cobs cross which was a delight to fish but again interrupted by an amarda of canoes who seemed to gravitate to our lines. No fish seen all day. It was also very bright.

Small brown trout, size varying from about 7 to 9 inches, taken on terrestrial (black spider) sitting on top of water under shade of trees around mid-afternoon and early evening (bright sunny day). A good day's fishing on very nice stretch of river.

Very hot day, river very low but did have a touch of colour and weed seems to have grown rapidly recently. Fished various swims along the beat with the odd chub and Barbel being taken to Pellet on the feeder. We fished into the dark and ended up with two Chub and five Barbel between us ranging from six to nine pounds.
The stile into the top meadow is badly damaged and is dangerous if you are carrying your gear, especially in low light conditions so please be aware of this.
walking back down the beat we came across a big Polish guy fishing for Barbel so we had to explain that he was not permitted to fish the beat. I asked him to produce his rod license, which he did but he took some convincing that he was NOT allowed to fish the beat.
Apart from that little episode another lovely session on our favourite river, Many thanks to the Wye and Usk Foundation.

Really hard work with nymphs and black smuts for 8 hours fishing. Not too bad considering the very high temperature. Best fish 8 inches. Lots of Signal Crayfish.

Nothing happened all morning and afternoon so B decided to make about 5 new swims! The water level was low and the sun scorching. In the evening the fishing picked up, all the fish were caught on halibuts with feeders. The fish seem to be under the banks and most fish were caught close in.

7 Barbel, 3 Chub
