This was a tough days fishing with very little sign of rising fish and only a few mayfly showing. The water was slightly coloured which affected visibility in the deeper pools. Caught two trout (6-8") on dry fly towards the top of the beat where the footbridge crosses and one other very small (3") tiddler on a size 20 black nymph.

Low, clear and bright, nil return due to inept wading and too long 8ft rod, never the less good evening spent stalking several rising fish.

Again no joy. No salmon seen or touched.
Water maybe a bit low but by no means bare bones and maybe still to early in the season. Starting to lose faith in this beat, looks like lovely water. But even when fish are being taken on nearby beats I've not had any luck here. Probably need to persevere. But every time a spend a day here I finish thinking I probably would have been better going somewhere else.

Very pretty water, but not as easy access as we were expecting for a 'mature' party, especially at the downstream end. Quite a few rises but not to the flies we were fishing.

Nothing showing when we arrived and a dry fly was ignored. The first fish, about 7" came to a goldhead. There was a prolific hatch of mayflies and others which delighted the birds but the fish ignored. It was easy to believe that there were no fish in the river, which is very low, and we saw nothing move until after lunch. Saw five fish rise and caught one of them, about 12", on a mayfly.
It is a beautiful spot and if we had gone to take photographs, watch birds, or enjoy a delightful bit of the countryside, the day would have been counted a total success.
For any doubting Thomas's, there is a waterfall, but it is a long way up the river.

Sunny breezy day. An F Fly tempted a few fish to rise, but a Hawthorne got the best response.

A great day all round. Weather partly cloudy with a stiffish downstream and chilly breeze but nothing that could not be dealt with.
Fished the lower end of the beat starting from the bend and landed a 6 incher that fell to a self tied gold head HE monstrosity and another just before lunch. Partridge and orange and my trusty waterhen bloa did not produce so changed the setup to black spider and grey watchett (I like to fish N Country spiders). The black landed one and I released a further three from distance so could not tell what enticed them.
I am not sure what constitutes a decent water depth but I was wading in water between 2 and 3 feet. Water was running clear so with the wind creating a ripple made for good fishing conditions. Not much in the way of insect activity which was matched by lack of fishy activity on the surface. Plenty of weeny midgy types that attracted the birds.
Gravel wading making conditions underfoot very easy indeed, a pleasure to wade in fact. My season ticket will be put to good use. Many thanks.
