Excellent day on this long stretch of the river not far outside Ross.
Started at the lower end in the faster water on the stickfloat taking a net load of chub from 8oz to 5lb with the odd dace thrown in.
Switched to groundbait feeder tactics for barbel late afternoon, still in the faster water and got an instance response on corn. 6 barbel to 8lb in 2hrs then let my mate fish the swim who had another 3 and a big eel.
Great beat when the water level is right.

Not much happening for me - a little frustrating, but how can you complain in such a wonderful setting?! - I didn't see much activity (few rises in places I couldn't reach), but it seems from other reports that that is probably down to my ineptitude. I actually didn't cover much of the beat and found access somewhat difficult (I say that as a perfectly agile 30-something year old) but part of that is the challenge to these wild wonders.

I fished from 9-11.30am. Personally, I found this beat quite dangerous as the river goes from shallow to very deep in a lot of areas, and the riverbed can by quite slippery. I didn't catch anything nor did I see a fish rise.
The scenery was very good, but i was expecting a much better days fishing. Maybe it was just one of those days?
The flies I tried were CDC 'F' fly, caenis & grey duster.

No success at Eyton, no fish, no signs of fish for both rods, although water at good level, pity. Stunning spot to fish though.

Well, if I was a Marine I might have enjoyed it, the amount of livestock water gates turned it into an assault course. I am pretty sure I spent more time climbing the banks than I did fishing! Please put a small section in the middle that can be lifted by someone other than Arnie! This is the worst beat I have experienced with the Wye and Usk, and indeed felt somewhat conned as there is no mention of this in the book. After 3/4 mile, and about 8 water gates I gave up, saw one grayling of 1 - 1.5lbs, right under a gate! An hours drive and £10 wasted, (used all the vouchers). It should not be a prerequisite that a recce be carried out before putting the vouchers in the box. If you need a design for a pedestrian pass in the gates let me know, it's not rocket science! I have no wish to advocate vandalism, but at one stage I dearly wished that I had brought my chainsaw with me!

No fish were caught on the day but had a good day there , plenty of other people fishing and I will be back again soon.
It would be better from a boat, maybe I will try it next time.

River in lovely condition. Only managed to fish for a few hours in afternoon. No rising fish and sadly drew a blank.

Fished lower end by the cottage and groyne. River was normal summer level, had 6 barbel and 6 chub and dropped 2 barbel to hook pulls. All barbel on pellet, 2 chub on rolling meat. Went very quiet in the afternoon when the sun was up and started feeding later on. Lovely peaceful fishing in a beautiful setting.
