Good grannom on arrival. 2 fish quickly on cdc both about 15ozs (returned), then a cold downstream wind got up & the grannom disappeared. Minimal olives after that but no moving fish.

Arrived to find a warm still morning with fish moving to the grannom. Watched 2 big fish under the bridge for ages moving and feeding. And that was our mistake as a cold north wind sprung up killing the rise. The fish played with us but without a grannom pattern of note it was a struggle for the rest of the day. Most fun was had with wets in the faster water above the bridge with grayling of about 120z doing there best pretending to be huge trout. Caught 10 or so grayling between us and a range of small trout and parr. Only a few to the dry though, despite covering quite a few fish, I think you need to be more exact in your pattern when the weather turns iffy. David fell (again)in to make it more entertaining as well. Interesting beat, river needs a clean out.

Have fished the home patch here at Moccas off and on over the last few weeks and also the Gwent Anglers water at Ty Mawr on the Usk. The Grannom hatch has developed slowly on both rivers since 23 March as per last year. Grannom now around on both rivers in substantial numbers but not yet "plague proportions"! Fish taken on all three grannom emerger patterns. f you tie flies see my article on Gwent Anglers website with tying details(go to flies/trout)and, if you don't,you can now buy two of them ex-Fulling Mill from Hartley Fly (Fulling Mill new 2012 range). Also try tying up a weighted pupa tied along similar lines. Has worked well this year upstream alone or as the point fly with team of spiders.

Was looking forward to fishing this new stillwater. Obviously the Upper Pool had been fished before, as there were platforms scattered around the banks. Fished the one next to the "sunken boat". Weather had changed from hot and sunny to wet and cold. However this did not put the carp off feeding, as I had one on the first cast, on maggots, and 2 dozen more, either caught on maggots, bread or sweetcorn! All were commons (2 mirrors) up to 4lbs. Although I did see some good silver fish going for bread on the surface, no matter where I cast the bait, I had a bite off the carp. Will try again when the it warms up, and try and avoid the carp!

Fished all the way down with no takers then had a go for the trout. Had a couple and a nice grayling to PTN. It had started to get quite cold by the end of the day and the river was still very low.

Very mixed weather of warm sunshine and wintery showers. One good WBT of around 10 inches on a weighted Pheasant Tail nymph. Missed a couple of his relatives that chose a size 16 Grey Duster during an all too brief period of sunshine. Reflexes still too rusty after the long winter lay off! This beat will be a cracker in May.
