A beautiful 15lb fresh hen salmon from Bridge pool. Took a carefully presented size 10 Cascade just between the two rocks and gave me a very dour and strong fight. Had a 1.5lb trout from same pool and a strong pull in the Spring pool (Gromain beat) that I am 90% sure was a salmon.
Thanks for your advice and introduction to the Wye - I had no idea it is such a wonderful river and offers such superb fly fishing.

Tried fishing the fly at the top of the beat. Blustery wind and deep wading made this rather difficult; a spinning rod would probably make fishing the pools there a bit easier. However I had one strong pull in the Corner Pool, I'm pretty sure from a salmon, and a large trout from the Hut Pool, both on a black and yellow tube. I switched to a trout rod and had 3 small trout from the streamy runs on my way back to the bottom of the beat. All fish returned. Thanks to WUF.

8 WBT caught largest about 1.5lbs or 37cm. All taken upstream nymphing with size 16 goldheads, Icelandic Peacock and HE. Fishing slowed off in late afternoon with very bright sunshine. Strong gusty wind, some fly life coming off with occasional rising fish seen but it still does not feel much like late spring !
