We had a wonderful day at Lypole Fishery. Plenty of trout to 1 lb (about 6 to 8 trout) for each of us. We tried to catch a few big grayling, but I only caught two small grayling on the nymph. Despite the nice weather there was no hatch so only few fish were rising. Most trout came to small nymphs.

Sunny day with some showers and wind, river clear. Not much fly life, so no significant rise at any time. However, having had no success with nymph or spider, tried small para Adams after lunch in likely spots. Landed 5 wbt to 10" and missed 4 more, so turned out a good day. Have to say the wooded area above the weir is very dense making it difficult to get any sort of cast away in some of the runs/pools. However, really enjoyed the day and the challenges!

A very nice beat, with yellow mays hatching sporadically throughout the day, although I did not see a trout rise to one at all. Plenty of rises to smaller flies, but I only managed 1 x 10" WBT with an induced take on a brown dry. The only thing that marred the day was a springer spaniel chasing a duck half the length of the river!

Fished this beat for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It really is a delightful spot. The weather was kind, the fly life immense including plenty of late mayfly hatching. Our lack of experience probably mitigated against good catches but the 6inch grayling were rising all day to tiny black flies. Only 1 trout caught and 8 grayling between us, all 6 to 8 inches. Did spot a grayling not much short of 3lbs in the pool just downsteream of the footbridge but alas it wasn't interested!

Really attractive and peaceful stretch of this wonderful river. Spent the morning fish spotting & baiting up. Started fishing soon after lunch and had 15 or so chub averaging 3-4lb with a best of 5lb 3oz on trotted sweetcorn feeding corn & pellets from a swim about a third of the way down on the left bank. River had risen about 6 inches overnight and had just a tinge of colour. Then roved around for a few hours and caught chub from most swims wading and trotting corn. Finished off trotting corn and pellets in pre-baited shallow swim on right bank near trees and had 8 barbel approx 3-6lb in less than 2 hours.
A good days fishing in marvelous surroundings and great fun on the float.
Had the beat to myself. It would have been difficult to fish the way I did had there been another angler on the water. Can't wait to return!

Changes of plan meant that we could only put 1 rod on for 2 hours or so but still time for 4 barbel & 1 chub from the open water higher up the beat.

Following yesterdays hectic sport at Backney we arrived at Wyastone Leys hoping to find a better stamp of fish. This was our first visit to Wyastone and as it was my turn for first choice of swim I chose the obvious one nearest to boys rocks with FG settling in the next available swim some way downstream. The river was still slightly up with some colour and a nice flow to it. Once I'd found where the worst of the snags were I managed to largely avoid getting snagged and had 10 barbel best 8lb 10oz including another 4 between 7 and 8 lbs and 5 between 7 and 4 1/2 lbs . FG had 3 barbel up to 7lbs and some chub. After fishing a day ticket length on Thursday we returned to fishing the WUF length at Courtfield on Friday with another friend AP who has submitted the report for that session but which included my best 2 barbel of the trip 9lb 7oz and 8lb 13oz and best chub 5lb 1oz. Many thanks to the the WUF staff who were helpful as ever particularly on Friday when we rang them at 9am and they found us somewhere to fish for the same day.
