Started fishing at 9.15am - 1 barbel on my third cast. JT lost 3 fish in 5 casts so decided to bait the swim and give it a rest. We thought we were in for a good day but not to be. After that it was a real struggle. We fished plenty of other swims and I managed to catch 2 chub. I probably could have caught more but I was fishing too heavy and losing a lot of meat to small tugs. LAZY I think. Spoke to a lady walking her dog and she said that there was a pheasant shoot on Saturday. 800 bangs, did that make a difference?

Deadbaiting for pike. One chub and a couple of dropped runs which I suspect were chub also as baits not marked.
Feel that £20/day is too much and won't fish this beat again at that price.
Flock of 31 goosanders on the water when I arrived.

A nice mild day, with the river carrying a few inches of extra water. Fished by the hut for eleven barbel and three chub, almost all to pellet.
A great days fishing, on a lovely fishery. Thanks to Colin Richardson for his advice.

River still well up when we arrived; clearing but carrying a lot of autumn debris. Very few fish showing anywhere. We only managed one out of season brown trout between us - a fish of about 12oz in very nice condition. The temperature seemed to drop around lunchtime prior to some light but sustained afternoon rain. It seemed to warm again as the rain eased towards dusk which made the fishing rather more comfortable but, sadly, no more productive. But it is a lovely bit of water and well worth the drive to be there.

A nice mild overcast day, with the river carying about a foot of extra water. We started in a nice looking swim a couple of fields upstream of the brook, and fished for three houres for one bite (which I missed).
We then decided to move back downstream to a couple of swims in the slow steady water below the shallows (about half way up the first field). This made an immediate difference, with a nice barbel within ten minutes coming to Lukes rod. We finished the day with four barbel between us, all caught on pellet, weighing around five to seven and a half pounds.

Beautiful day to give my first try at grayling. Mrs. C even said "you haven't been fishing in a while". Didn't have to ask me twice, so headed to the Monnow. Try as I might, didn't have a touch today. Will return with some proper grayling bugs and hopefully some more knowledge. River had some colour, but was clearing and dropped about 2 inches when I was there. A very small hatch at 2:30 wasn't really enough to stir up any risers. Still beats working. Thanks WUF.
