Total of eight rainbow trout caught between the two people fishing. All between 2lb and 2.5lb. All fish in very good condition. Also a large number of perch caught and released.
Good days fishing, but a little disappointed in the amenities. Not even a toilet available on the entire lake.

Sat 21st July: 9 Barbel to 7lbs 14oz, 2 Chub and a (PB?) 10oz Dace. Fish fed better in the morning than later on.
Sun 22nd July: A much tougher day, the hot sun seemed to put the barbel off. Decided to fish a new swim at the bottom end, managed to take 4 Barbel, a Chub, a couple of Dace and a nice suntan.

Not many flies about and no fish rising. No bites. Pretty hard work forcing a route through prolific bankside vegetation to reach the lower limit, in fact didnt reach it. But an exciting river with lots of variety. The Royal George Inn (about 4m NE) does excellent freshly cooked lunches and good ales.

10 Barbel all on feeder fished pellets. Extra water on but dropping not rising. Lots of fish in the swim and if fished hard would produce as many fish as you wanted, I'm sure. We fished on the right hand bank (facing downstream) about 50 yards down from the bridge. There's a nice run of smooth water against the bank and a crease about 20yards out where it joins the shallower more turbulent flow of mid river. If you hit the crease right on the head you were guaranteed a Barbel in the 3-6lb region. Tremendous fights in the heavy flow.

River conditions perfect but only managed to catch 1 barbel around 6lb on pellet. I only managed to fish in the afternoon and it was very hot and sunny.
It is a lovely stretch of river and I will return to fish it again early morning and late evening when I'm sure it will be more productive.

I arrived on the water mid-morning to bright sunshine and gin clear water. I chose to fish with a 6'4 rod and 2lb leader and size 16 klinkhammer black bodie and a size 18 goldhead fished New Zealand style. The results were instant landing a dozen or so grayling to 2lb and losing a nice trout at the net, all to the goldhead. The best performing pool for me was where the lane and river meet. The one gripe is that I could find no beat signage to mark lower and upper limits so as not to stray. The fishing is not easy but they are there.
