3 x 6" Trout and 1 X 9" trout all to a white moth pattern dry. Very hard work and not much moving needs a flush. Bottom end of the beat impenetrable jungle and if one got in the river the difficulty was in getting out. Further up at the caravan site things were much easier but with the River so low the trout could see you a mile off so my trout were caught at long range.

The Kilsby B&B breakfast, packed lunch and indeed the whole stay was superb (Thank you Sue and Chris)- much recommended and already booked a return trip in early September. Aberbwtran is exactly what is says - a very secluded beat again offering a variety of fishing opportunities, well worth the short walk. 5 Grayling caught from 8" to 15" - superb fishing, most productive for us mid afternoon on the Klinkhammer. We will return.........

32 grayling size 9-18" cought on dry Adam's Irresistable (brown/black) #12 during the first 5h session, swiched to nymphs after break, we had further catches including over 10 brownies size 9-15" from the weirs. Low and clear water with fish rising very well. Very enjoyable day, will be back soon. All fish safety returned.

Four of us fished Vanstone/Corner Tree/Maddox swims. Total catch four barbel to 8ibs and three chub. I fished Vanstone pool and I agree with another report about the snags. I was also not impressed to find discarded tackle (hair rigged hooks, swivel links) plus several long lengths of monofilament in the mud and bushes and even a collection of beer cans deposited in the bankside undergrowth - all removed.
My next purchase will be an Anglers version of an Exocet missile to prevent yet another kayaker (the majority of whom were pleasant and "exchanged waves and good luck") doing demonstration rollovers about four feet from a friends rod tip - the deliberate, boorish behaviour was a disgrace and ruined what should have been a pleasant session even if the fishing was hard. We will probably not visit this beat again.

Yesterday I was fishing a pool which I knew held a salmon but despite my best efforts, it remained firmly in its lie, unmoved by my tempting offers.

I sat on a stone to consider my next cunning plan which undoubtedly would deceive this difficult adversary when a band of howling banshees descended upon the river in the form of the dreaded day tripper canoeist. There were seven or eight vessels and the occupants were clearly having a wonderful time splashing, shouting and shrieking their way downstream in a tight group.

The commotion aroused my salmon from its slumber and it charged around the pool leaping from the water, finally landing in the foot well of a canoe at the centre of the mayhem. After a couple of minutes chasing a very slippery customer around the boat they finally claimed their prize and sportingly returned the fish to the river.

Moral of the story? It's clear.... I will have to buy a megaphone and canoe to keep in the "special tactics section of my tackle box.

First time users of the Passport and certainly wont be the last. Enquires to the Passport Office have always been very very helpful.
Day 1 - Hotel Cammarch Upper and Middle Beat. There are three beats and more than enough for a full day for two rods. The Hotel is very helpful and the coffee was most welcome. Very varied selection of pools, glides, wooded and faster stretches. Water appeared low and was gin clear and very enjoyable day despite only one 8" Grayling being taken and one feisty brownie lost. Caught 2 Barbel 6lb each and 1 small chub. Vanstone extremely snaggy and fish not present in numbers. River lower than I've seen it in probably 40 years (though some of those years are a bit hazy). Spur of the moment booking as I saw that I would have the stretch to myself.

Met Adam the friendly and helpful bailiff, who suggested going back to Vanstone pool (where I had caught the first barbel) until dark (which I agreed with totally. Immediately had 2nd barbel first chuck, well before dark, but then spent the rest of the evening tying hair rigs as I was losing a hooklength every other cast.

If fishing this area, I would advise against using bare hooks, as it was the hooks and not the feeder which was getting snagged on the rocks. When I eventually gave up hair rigs and using meat with hook buried, I stopped getting snagged but no further fish came , except for a small chub which nicked my meat from about 5ft out as I was packing up.

Hardest fishing I've known on this stretch. Desperately needs monsoon, and soon. Apart from that, Peregrines, Buzzards, Dippers, Pair of Kingfishers, loads of salmon leaping while leaving the upper end of Vanstone pool heading upstream, but no biggies. And millions of fry which were eating everything I put in the feeder.

Rain please, and lots of it. (Lovely day though.)

6 grayling 1 trout. Seen a salmon jump in the fast water at the bottom of the stretch. Lots of fish rising. Beautiful stretch of water and a great day out.

Lots of small grayling and half a dozen 12 - 18" trout and grayling. Beautiful warm day and all taken on dry fly.

The water was very low and clear restricting the choice of swims. We fished from the concrete croys for most of the day with just a few chub on pellet and bread. We moved downstream for the evening and had a good couple of hours, taking 6 barbel to 8lb 8oz to end the day on a high.
