Me and a friend fished Sugwas on the previous day and although the water level was high we had a good day. We stayed at the Grafton Travel Lodge in Hereford which was clean and comfortable with the staff freindly and helpfull. Unfortunatley when we got to the White House beat the river was way up and raging though so we did not fish, went and had a bit of lunch instead. This was the first time either of us had been on the Wye and what a stunning river it is. With the ease of booking a beat we will be back soon for another go.

River very high and like chocolate , nothing rising at all. Could not get to the EDW pool very steep and slippery bank with a drop into a torrent of water at the bottom. Very dangerous indeed. Better luck next time, Blank.

July 2 caught 9lb and 10lb at 9.20am and 12.40pm respectively.
This ends my wonderful 4 day fishing session which resulted in 5 fish all on fly and 2 lost.I hope this encourages others to keep fishing!

Not a good day. The river rose 6" during late morning and early afternoon, chances being almost zero in my book. The lunchtime Rectory catches would suggest otherwise, but the beat is downstream and perhaps the water had not reached there.
I was a little frustrated that it was not classed as a wash off. Another frustration is the condition of infrastructure on the beat. All the wading boards are in a serious state of disrepair, I could not get on the upper boards at all.
One day someone will get hurt.
However, I think the real problem is that I am not catching fish and S.E. is....

Interesting beat with a great variety of water. Started very early and fished the Rock pool very thoroughly for no result only to be shamed by Simon Evans who fished it after me and pulled out 2 fish.
Weather remained awful all day and the river rose quite a bit. I then concentrated on the gravel catch, which is a lovely bit of water and was finally rewarded with a beautiful fresh salmon of aprox 12lb.
Thanks for all the advice and direction Simon.

My lucky run ended today. Torn waders on the barbed fence (could landowner do something about it?) and vastly limited my chances for a big fish. On the positive side I landed and released 2lbs sea trout and nice 17” WBT. Water 2ft rising to 3ft by evening. There is always another day. Thank you.
