Day was a wash off after an evening of heavy rain. Must say it is a great looking stretch of river, so enticing that even the other two in my party (who had come all the way from Derbyshire) can't wait to return to this stretch for another chance to catch a grayling. Here's hoping that at the next attempt the Welsh contingent amongst them can show them how to fish .... Cymru Am Byth !!

Piking on top half the beat trying any likley looking holes, just one missed run, was told by a member of a shoot late in the day that most of the pike were taken from the bottom of the beat in the slacker waters?? Try there next time maybe, an enjoyable day again in the Wye valley. Thanks everyone at w&u for a great service.

The river was in flood, far too swollen. Went walking instead, but a lovely area.

River was fairly high and pushing through quite a bit faster than on any of our previous visits. As a result we fished just into the flow on the near bank. Neil sat down on the steps in the middle of the beat. I went down to the pylon swim, but soon discovered I couldn't manage to fish it as I had planned with method feeder. I went back up to towards the middle of the beat. In the end, we both had two barbel around the seven pound mark. They certainly hung on in the current and gave a great scrap. Neil took his two (and lost a couple) on boilies. Mine were on pellet using method feeder. When I tried switch to boilie, I ended up catching a chub that was probably just a pound and a half. Gradually the rain really started to set in so we left a little early.

Weather grey and misty. River up and running fast. Usual pegs not really fishable as there was a lot of debris, in particular leaves and branches, in the water. Nevertheless we managed to get 15 chub (up to 4.5lb) and one very nice dace! Hard work but enjoyable. Our thanks to Ian, the Care Taker, who was welcoming and helpful.
