A couple of hours after work on a near perfect river - 1ft 10" and green. Lost one after a few seconds in tail of Spring Pool and then 3 casts later in mouth of the gutter had a take on the inside that turned out to be a fresh run 8lber. Slightly disappointing scrap and was in net in about 4mins. Went back strongly without leaving the water at any stage.
Steady, persistant rain went straight through the wading jacket that had a family of mice liveing in over the winter! In combination with leaking waders I was left wondering is there was any point wearing either!

A pretty challenging days fishing with lots of fast running, very coloured water. It rained most of the day and no fly or fish life was evident. Wading was only limited and tretcherous at times making it difficult to reach many areas of the river. I did hook one medium sized grayling, but it was unwilling to be netted!
Still a beautiful stretch of river, and I look forward to returning when conditions are back to normal.

Full of water with a bit of colour. Tough conditions for a creek of this size. Still found 6 fish to 8in. or so. Should be on fire when it finally drops in. Last bout of high water moved some of the wood around as well.

The river level was still quite high and slightly coloured due to rain the night before but was fining off during the day. Managed to catch 7 fish, all good sizes 1/2lb plus - with one over 1 lb.
Weather was good - sunny with some cloud cover and the air temperature was about 14 degrees C.

Fishing:Trout (River)

Sadly I couldn't choose the day of my visit to the Lyepole beat as I had to fit it around work. The weather was beautiful but unfortunately the river was very high and coloured. Wading was unsafe and the fishing was impossible. Tried everything but a nil return. Still beats work though! A good hatch of olives late on but only I could see them!

Area:Lower Wye
Beat:Goodrich Court
Fishing:Salmon
No. of Anglers:2
No Salmon caught but three clearly seen close to both banks (one being less than 20 feet away and 4 feet from bank) on The Maddox and Corner Tree and another on The Electric Lines. A dry day in the middle of many wet ones with bright conditions and a level river (rising slowly in evening). One Sea Trout caught & returned (end of Maddox).
Left bank access was V difficult but otherwise a wonderful 12 hours thrashing the river to a foam :-)
Thanks to all at WUF.
WUF note: This was when the river was running around 4ft above summer level. At anything below 2ft on the Fownhope gauge a stone walkway is visible that provides easy access to the left bank of all the lower pools.
