Fine sunny clear morning with mirror surface water but no fish. Cloud increased late morning and a light breeze produced a ripple. Two rainbows of 1.5 to 2 lb on Cats Whisker then 3 rainbows of same size spinning with rappala. An adjacent fisherman caught a fine 5lb rainbow. A relaxing day in good weather and fine views of the Carmarthen Vans.

3 x 1lb trout...caught and released. 1 x grayling...caught and released. All caught on small Klinkhammers and Olives. One human nearly killed by heart failure when Inlet/Outlet pipe triggered as clearance procedure whilst rod holder nearby. This happens every twenty minutes and might be worth noting for the unsuspecting. It can also lead to the short sighted claiming a 'rise' in the middle of the current... although I am not sure any rod would deal with the kind of beast that this would represent.
The workmen upgrading the waterworks are currently throwing a lot of food into the river to encourage the fish.. this appears to be helping somewhat as there was plenty of activity.

Sunny with showers, a couple of heavy ones. Fished 2-5.30, think I might have been a little late for the hatch - a few olives still around but if like the Wye this week (been staying overlooking main river) the main hatch would have been earlier. 4 brown trout, 1 grayling caught and returned. Trout all on olive dries - 1 trout was rising to olives, 3 others rose from likely lies. Grayling caught later in afternoon, and lost two trout, on PTNs.

Arrived in sunshine at 9.30 to find one mad trout rising on Rocks. After ten minutes a nice fish of 1 3/4lb accepted a size 14 LDO nymph. River was steady at 0.6m all day but tea stained. In spite of a very heavy hatch of grannom no rise ensued. Spent a very pleasurable days exercise with the 15 footer but no sign of salmo salar. A few LDOS started to hatch at around 4.30 with a number of fish rising on the flats above woodstream. Caught a 3/4 pounder again on an LDO nymph. Just got in the car in time to avoid a deluge. A very atypical spring day on the Usk but very enjoyable.
