4 Trout.

Bought permit at Cwmbran angling as instructed but they were unable to provide directions or advice on parking? I began wading from ST 307 936 and after passing through a rectangular concrete culvert I came across a pipe discharging raw sewage so I gave up wading! I have reported this to the EA and they are investigating under Ref: 878391
WUF NOTE: This exactly what anglers should do when spotting potential pollution. We will make enquiries into the lack of information on directions and parking.

Fantastic trout stream. There were trout on the surface feeding throughout the beat. I caught and released 12 fish all between 1/4lb and 1/2lb and all in top condition. Despite their size they put up a good fight and frequently went airborne. Top sport.

One small but very welcome trout in the late afternoon on a deer hair sedge. Challenging conditions with low water and bright sun but it was still possible to tempt a fish or two as as my fishing companions return will confirm.

20 fish. Best just over 1lb. All in lovely condition. Wonderful Day.

Beautiful day and beat. Caught one nice trout (8") and a few smaller ones. Difficult fishing on such a hot and bright day. Good spots to try though, riffles and nice pools with some fish rising. Would definitely come again.

Just one trout of about 10" to a dry fly.

2 Trout 6" and 11" on a dogsbody size 16. We need water!

Water incredibly low and clear with little flow in the pools - in the "Grandstand" and by the church it was more like being on a lake or a canal, with trout seen cruising to take fly whilst we had lunch - good quiet wading practice! It did mean though that we could get to normally inaccessible parts of the river. Hardly any fly - a handleful of tail-end grannom, some olives, and one or two large brook duns. Very few rising fish, most of which turned out to be grayling. Not much to show for the day either, with just one trout of 1.25lb and seven grayling three of which were 15-16 inches. Fish taken on olive and hare's ear emergers and one on an olive nymph, mainly in deeper water with a bit of pace. Similar story on the Usk the previous day, with some good rising fish of up to 2.5lb taken on hare's ear and olive emergers, but nothing taken on spiders, very few fish rising and little fly apart from black gnats and a one or two tail-end grannom. Bring on the rain ASAP!

Four fish including a fat 19" - all returned. PTN did its job. Many thanks to David, the owner, for accommodating my change of plan.
