Turned out to be a very difficult day. There was a lot of weed coming down the river which did not help with bait presentation. We ended the day with 1 chub of 2.5 lb and 2 barbel of 6lb and 7lb, all fish taken from the deeper water half way up the first field. The top salmon croy was unfishable because of the very high winds and excess weed coming down the river.

Found fishing difficult due to very strong wind and lots of weed and branches coming down the river. However after braving the elements, I landed 5 barbel and a bonus eel!? All caught on pellets over groundbait. All in all not a bad day considering the conditions.

Started the day with fishing down the main pool - and watching an otter fishing up the other bank. Only when we were directly opposite ( 25m) did he stop and we had a 30sec staring contest "excuse me I'm fishing here" after which he vanished into thin air. Water looked perfect but no sign of a fish at all throughout the day. Only at the end of the day 10 lb hen fish on T&L in Abernant stream - returned. Lovely day as ever.

Incompetently we struggled today landing only 3 barbel (all about 7lbs) and a couple of chub between the two of us. Still all fishing days are good days - especially on the Wye.

We arrived at 10.30 to find the river rather coloured but commenced to fish (fly) in the hope that it would fine down later. We had reckoned without what had clearly been heavy rain somewhere in the catchment as in the next three hours the river rose almost a foot and became heavily coloured. After a quick sandwich at 1 o'clock we were faced with a chocolate coloured and still rising river so abandoned ship. Not sure whether this counts as a 'wash-off'?
This was our first visit to this beat but even under the conditions we faced we could see enough to justify another trip under more favourable circumstances.

1st time on this beat and have to say we were dissapointed with the limited number of swims on the middle/top of this beat especially the top where fighing our way through the woods trying to find pegs wasted a lot of fishing time. It wouldn't take a lot of work to improve this area, also, re a previous comment that there are a couple of cracking pegs screaming to be opened up in the orchard.
The lower end of this beat presents much more fishable river with some really nice swims and once we located the fish we managed to catch 35 Barbel and 10 Chub with the biggest Barbel going to around 8lb.
We would definatley fish this beat again, we just hope the WUF listen to ours and previous comments about limited swims and carry out some work on the top end of this beat as it would change it from a good beat to an excellent beat.
Directions and access to the beat spot on and no problems encountered with the local livestock !
Thanks.
WUF Note: Clearance work is due on this fishery in October under our HARP project.
