Caught 2 x 13" beauties via a Deer Hair Emerger and a cold ducking via clumsiness. Miraculously managed to find my expensive varifocal specs in 3 feet of water after a 20 minute search. Thank you God!

Had a great day at Penpont. Arrived about 10am to good weather conditions. Started at the bottom with some nymphs but soon fish were rising so changed to the dry.

Had 15-20 takes, 4-5 hook ups, 3 snap offs but amazingly, zero to hand!!!! --- Just not quick enough for those turbocharged Penpont brownies....

This is a great beat with plenty of variety, I will hopefully be back soon.

Bright day but with a cold wind. Very little signs of rising fish. Not a great deal of fly life. Nothing caught.

The river condition was slightly below normal, which made wading easier. Access to the river in many places was difficult due to the nature of the steep banks and dense growths of knotweed and other forms of vegetation. However, a good day was had with four fish caught in about three hours of fishing. Two fish of 8 inches, 1 of 10 inches and a lovely fish of thirteen inches. All fell to size 14 Parachute Adams. The day was overcast, with slight drizzle falling and the odd spell of weak sunshine. There were small hatches of smaller grey mayfly during the warmer periods.

1 WBT to the net, around 1lb. Taken on #16 parachute adams. Fished the duo most of the day in the rougher water. Missed plenty of takes. Hooked up with a very sizeable specimen at the lower end of the beat, which took off upstream and bent my hook out of shape as it freed itself. Good day and plenty of fly life - well worth a visit.

As novice river fishermen we decided to enlist the help of a guide and were put in touch with Frank Williams. It was an inspired move as we learnt so much about rivercraft and fishing techniques as well as enjoying his company greatly.
My son had 3 cracking wild trout about 2.5- 3lbs,(sadly two lost at the net ) and we caught 6 smaller fish of around
1lb, (all returned) on nymphs initially and later on dries and emerger patterns. Despite a cold upstream wind trout rose through most of the day. A magical day in every respect.
