A lovely stretch of water in a great location. Sadly, not a great day of fishing with very few rises and little sub-surface interest. 1 small brownie caught (8") on mayfly. Enjoyed the day though.

3 Trout - biggest 13". 7 Grayling - biggest 17" !. All released. The day started out cool, with a touch of drizzle and a blustery downstream wind. Coupled with the low water conditions it soon became apparent that it wouldn't be an easy day of fishing. However the weather improved later in the day and the fishing followed. A number of very small fish (4"-6") caught on the dry fly with grayling outnumbering the trout. Other than that I was very pleased with a trio of more substantial fish - a 17" grayling, a 13" brown trout and a 12" grayling, all released.

Unseasonably cold due to stiff NW & downstream wind. Not much fly life about, just the occasional small sedge and yellow mays, which combined with a low and clear river translated into few rises and fewer fish. Managed to winkle out a grayling and small brownie on nymphs (GRHE & Copper John) and a nice grayling of about a pound on a golden olive klinkhammer cast to one of the few rises seen all day.

This fishing lark is surely a fickle thing! After a relatively good day on the Rectory beat last weekend, (thank you for advising this Seth)where two of us had twenty fish between us I thought I'd have another another go on Sunday. Guess what...Ty-Newydd only gave up one fish, a lovely Graying of about a half pound to a black Hawthorn fished over a bead head hare's ear.
This being only my second trip to the upper Wye I guess I still have a lot to learn about this magnificent river.
There were occasional hatches of fly, accompanied by sporadic rises, but a stiff downstream wind carried the hatches away on a regular basis. I did manage to get a couple of rises to an Adams but these wild fish were too quick for me.
Ty-Newydd is a lovely beat and I hope to return in Sept.
Thank you WUF

Some fish showing, but a blank day in spite of covering the rising fish and several fly changes. I guess some days they take! Plenty of canoe traffic through the day up until about 5.30. All were friendly and polite and did not seem to affect the fish showing.
